Just wondering what peoples views were on wifi security.
I have mine setup currently using no WEP.
However i have disallowed all conenctions from network cards, unless there MAC address is on the allowed list.
    Is this secure ?
Surely there is no way someone can get the MAC address and then emulate it ( i know emulation is possible)

Or should i crank up WEP encyption as well?

You can spoof MAC addresses but of course you would need to know which ones are on the list.

Am i right in thinking that is not easy to get remotely - you cant grab that from packets or something?

you can sniff and spoof a mac in 5 mins. not secure at all on its own. even WEP is fairly insecure, have a look at airsnort.

As lucifer says, I could come and snoop your network and get all the details I need to hop onto your AP in minutes.

WEP is your friend, and it's more important than authorised MAC addresses.

Even though there is a MAC list, couldnt you still see what is being transmitted (without mac spoofing)? Granted it would take special equipment.

    OK, thanks.

So really to be as secure as i can get with my old AP is enable 128bit encryption, and use mac address security.
And then add passwords to all my pc's on the network....

    What else?
