Graphics Will I need more than 3GB VRAM for 2560x1440?

My ideal graphics card would be a 3GB 780/780ti. My only concern is that the amount of VRAM is going to become limiting. Should I just save some money and buy a 290x?

The card itself is normally more important than the amount of VRAM.

3GB is going to be plenty for any situation, unless you're trying to run a three panel set up with one card. As Teelzebub said, most people can run 1440p with 2GB just fine.

You can run it fine, sure, and yes the GPU grunt is arguably more important... however, when you start turning up all of the eye candy, VRAM is a must.

I've played a variety of games at 1440p with the settings cranked right up and I've only once or twice seen the RAM usage go above 2GB - Sleeping Dogs was one of them (the first that comes to mind) but most use less. 3GB is plenty :)

3GB is plenty. Only when you get to 4K and crank the AA up will you start to use more! But FXAA is more than enough and is not very taxing or VRAM demanding. :)

Do not really need AA at 4k is what alot of review sites are saying who have done early reviews. They have also done some vram tests and no game was above 2.5gb on a pair of 780tis. ( the only 2 cards quick enough for minimum fps )

Dout you will need 3gb though.

They said that about 1600p when that came out, but my eyes are ultra sharpe, and I see zigzags. So FXAA is a minimum I use.

Titanfall can easily take 3GB+ with insane textures at 1080p IIRC. Overall it depends on how long you want this card but even at 2560x1440 if you want to have very high textures and keeping it for a while. You'd probably be better served by going for a 6GB EVGA 780ti when it comes out.

Titanfall does use 3Gb of ram at 1080p with Insane Textures turned on.

The annoying thing about Titanfall is that it uses all the Vram when the game is first launched.

see my rig? I only have 1.5 GB VRAM and it handles quite well in BF4 I play in window mode and one step down from HABO to get fluid FPS. BF3 I just need to step down from HABO, though I hate HABO anyway as it has far too much glare from my liking.

The highest I have seen the Vram usage in Battlefield 4 at 1080p Ultra preset is about 1.6Gb iirc.
