Hello fellow bit-tech members. I currently have a GeForce 6200 in this beast of a machine (not really) and it's absolutely terrible. The desktop may freeze for several minutes at a time (probably defective), and I can't play any games at all. Which is just about all I use a PC for (especially in the summer) I plan on getting a new graphics card eventually, but money is hard to come by since I'm too young to work. :wallbash:

Before I say anymore, my processor is a Pentium Dual-Core E6300 @ 2.80 GHz (Wolfdale) With a 1066 MHz FSB.
Many of my domineering friends (should I call them that?) just ignore me when I ask for any help. I want to get the Radeon HD 4890, I can't be for sure which specific manufacture I want yet. As I said money is a hard thing to come by.

I may be getting one of the following cards depending on how much money I get:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127427

And if my luck completely fails me, which it usually does. I resort to this:

I won't take any suggestions for any lower model cards, maybe nvidia equivalents though. Since money is always a problem for me, I want to make the best decision so that I don't have to buy another piece of hardware for a while.

I would go for the ATI 4870, the 4890 runs hot and noisy, on top of that you pay (in my opinion) way too mutch for the increase in power.

If you WANT the best card go for a Sappire Radeon 4890 Atomic (runs quieter and more power) or the Nvidia GTX 275.

I don't know the pricing in the states (besides that you get everything cheaper) witch could make all the diffrence in this area.

Do you REALLY need a 4890? Your CPU might be a bottleneck for that, especially if you don't overclock.

I'd say get a 4850, or if you can find one, a 4770.

And what PSU do you have BTW?

I'd recommend the 4770 too, its cheaper and runs pretty fast. What resolution are you playing on and what mobo/ram/os do you have?

Every 4770 I find goes out of stock and eventually gets discontinued. I could get the 4850, or the 4870, but the GTX 275 costs too much.

    I'm running on a GIGABYTE GA-EP43-UD3L Intel P43 Motherboard:

    4 GB's of G.Skill RAM:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231122

My PSU is a Corsair 650TX:

And my Operating System is Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate. Currently I'm playing on a 1280 x 1024 resolution, I have a lousy 17" CRT monitor from 2003. But when I get enough money I'm getting a 22" LCD, it's max resolution is 1680 x 1050. I can't go over $206.00 USD, my current graphics card is possibly defective and could even fail at some point; so I have to upgrade ASAP. You cannot imagine the insanity that this lousy PCI (not PCI-E) card provokes. Anything is better. As long as it'll last me for a while.

    EDIT:

After reading for a while, the HIS ATI Radeon HD 4770 might not be a bad choice for my mid range system, I'll take it.
