    Hi.

I plan on installing windows 8 pro on my laptop, which is currently running windows 7.
I want to do a clean install, and wipe the hard drive.
I currently have office 2010 home and student installed.
As this is the single licence version, if I upgrade, will I have to get a new product key for it to run, or can I use my current product key.

    Thanks for any help. :)

upgraded my win7 pc to win 8 (and selected "keep documents only")

I had to reinstall office 2010, though it hasnt asked me for my serial number again since, and ive used various bits of office several times since being on win8.

No you will not have to purchase a new key and yes you can use your current product key.

The issue would arise if you were to use the key on two different PC's at the same time, specifically when activating the product using the key.

Ensure you back up your emails (unless you use webmail, natch :) ).

    Office 2010 will work perfectly.
It just has 2 graphical glitches. There is a strange glow on the "File" button, and the shadow around pages in Word, is just solid gray box and not smooth.

Ah yeah, I noticed that, the square box on the File button. It doesn't stop it from working at all, just seems to be a small visual bug.

yea. I have been using Office 2010 (mostly: Outlook, Word and Excel), and I haven't fell into any issues beside these strange visual problem. I doubt MS will fix them as they want to push Office 2013, but its just minor thing. Program still works perfectly.

Should be. If you forget to back anything up it will most likely still be in the Windows.old folder after install.

From my experience if you do encounter an error with your key being rejected a call to Microsoft support will normally sort it out.

    Hi again.

Every time I open any of the office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), I get a "Configuring
office home and student 2010" loading screen, which takes a minute to complete.
Whats causing this, and how do I stop it.
    Thanks again
    Richard

Try and run it as true admin, wait until it's done. Make sure Office is activated. Then close it, and open it normally. See if it solved the problem.

Still doing the same thing. I repaired the suite from the control panel, and that also made no difference.
It is activated and running perfectly, except for the configuring screen.
    Any other ideas?

Did you clean install Win8? Or did you upgrade?
You might need to re-install Office 2010 (uninstall it first).

I upgraded, and chose keep documents only.
I downloaded the office 2010 60 day trial, and used the same product key as before.
Anything else needed, or will I just uninstall and re-install it.

Apparently not an uncommon problem. Add the following key to the registry:

    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\Options /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1

    That should do the trick.

Just after uninstalling it. Ah well. Thanks for the help. I'll reply in the morning and see if it works.
    Thanks again
