hi all just wondering if there will be a 4890x2, if so do you think it will better the 4870x2 and the gtx295, as i might sell my single 4890 oc card and buy the 4890x2 cheers guys take care
No. For one, I'd think the heat issues would be too difficult to overcome to the point where if it was achievable then it'd have to be underclocked so much the performance would be similar to the 4870 X2. So basically, there's no point in going to all that effort for something that would only be marginally better than its predecessor. Plus, with DX11 cards round the corner you'd have to be mad to buy one of these now, especially since it'd command a hefty premium over the 4870 X2.
I cant see it happening, i think ATI will now be focusing on the next generation of cards rather than releasing something else to over populate there current line up.
i see what you mean, its unfair to the consumer though that if he/she bought the newest graphic card/cpu, that they would be classed as old stock sort of thing within a few months, ive not long bought the sapphire 4890 oc, yet come november-ish, there will be a replacment, these companies need to slow down a touch, but i suppose with ati and nvidia competing against each other, its a case of who gets the newer card out first,,,,,its wrong thanks for your replies guys take care
It been like this for years! best thing to ever do is read the computing news, if new stuff is a month away then wait, spec the best hardware for your budget buy build use and forget about keeping up with tech for another 3 years. Most people upgrade there systems on the mear fact they know there is better gear out there, whether or not there current is doing what they need. If your 4890 is struggling to put out a minimum of over 30fps then readjust game settings, update the driver, worst case get another and crossfire them. My GTX280 would be considered old tech now, i have heard of people selling theirs for the GTX285 which is pointless. Right now it creams all the games i like to play and when things start getting slow i shall overclock it.
cheers for that burnout, is there software i can download for me to see what fps im getting take care
