I'm looking at upgrading, and as the Sapphire refuses to come out, I'm getting the A8R32-MVP and a 3800+ DC most likely, but as for video cards, would a pair of X1600 XTs be able to handle Oblivion on High (1280x1024) or do I need to look at a more expensive single card? i can actually get into Crossfire cheaper than a single ultra-high end card, so I wondered what was better...

I almost always rate the Single better card higher.
Two main reasons, you can upgrade later, and it'll sell for more later. ;)

Why not just get a 7900GT? Thats cheaper isn't it?

Then I can't use the multi-card capabilites of SLI on the superior ATi chipset.

If I get the A8N32 SLI, yeah, but it's not Xpress 3200, which is what I want. The ATi cards score higher in Oblivion anyway.

    Well aware of that.

Still considering it, but I have to do a lot of replacing right now, and my wife just got me a new Ibanez, so I have to be respectful. Or recycle my damaged processor, which really isn't an option.

Reason this crossed my mind is the fact that oblivion, being held all in GPU memory, might do well with 512 MB x1600 cards in Crossfire. Would love some official word though...

My advice would be, unless you're buying the very best and want more(I.E 7900GTX's or X1900XTX) then avoid dual card solutions. They invariably give less performance per dollar then you'd get if you just piled all that money into a single, higher end card.

I only have a 7800gs and Oblivion runs great. I would just go with a good single card for now and then use that add in card upgrade later.

Got an X1900XTX on a deal, so I'm all taken care of.

Wife wants to play Oblivion too.

Son of a monkey came busted. This is not cool.
