I've owned a 1999 Fiat Brava 105JTD for the last 3 years and the wipers have always played up and randomly blown the fuse, (usually on key turn).

Anyway I got fed up and put a loop of wire in there and left the fuse cover off so i could pull it out easy if anything "nasty" occured, well that was 6 months ago but then the wire totally burnt out last week filling the car with smoke,.... me too slow to pull it out LOL (I did say random blow didn't I).

Anyway, I stripped the fuse box and checked behind and NO DAMAGE (phew!)

Now then..... My wipers park UPRIGHT!!!!!!

They work fine, but park upright ala racing driver stylie! I think it's the wiper relay that's fuxxored.

So will that fail an MOT as it is for obstucting the windscreen anyone know?? I can see out fine, the wipers park either side of my head LOL.

    Cheers,

    MM

cant see it failing for that, buteven if it did i`d assume its an easy fix. You often see cars that have wipers stopped in the middle, but dont take this as solid evidence because imnot sure.

Thanks, I'm asking becasue I want to know whether to sell it now (MOTed to May 06) as it is, or not worry about it until the next MOT because it won't be an issue then.

I'm only guessing it's the relay, as I really don't want to spend £300 on new wiper motor and mechanism from FIAT to cure it.

    Cheers,

i can also see no real problem with it, as long as they work and are reliable then that should be that, but the garage/law might have other ideas.

if a clapped out metro with a central parking single wiper kit can pass an MOT then im sure yours will :p

I think it may depend on whereabouts on the screen they park. There's a zone in front of the driver where you can have any 'obstructions' such as chips and stickers, the tester may see the wipers as an obstruction, especially as they aren't supposed to park there :) The central single wipers will usually fall outside of this zone wich is why they pass.
Do they always park in the same place? That would suggest that the park switch is still working, you could just take the wipers off and rotate them around a little ;)
£300 for a new unit sounds hella steep tbh, maybe look into a recon unit? Especially if its burning fuses...
