My two BFG GTX 295 do quite nicely and really unless I could trade them in for the next quad SLI system to come out then I think I will be happy with what I have. Besides my PC is only a few months old, it is not time to throw money at it yet...
I couldn't agree more ...I posted them because, as far as I remember, there weren't these sort of "specials" being bandied around prior to Ati's 5xxx launch... they had no need. It smacks of desperation on the part of Nvdia and their partners.
Already have plans to buy a 5850 once I see what the prices are gonna do. I normally have no real preference except that I've had good experiences with EVGA and they're green team only, but Nvidia's anti-competitive practices with AA and PhysX have completely turned me away from them. "The way it's meant to be played" was bad enough, advertising themselves on games which ATI is equally capable of playing bothers me a smidge. I'd rather the two companies fight to put out the best cards possible and push the industry forward and prices down, not try to lock each other out and hurt us consumers.
I've been wanting to watercool my 295 for some time now, but have been desperately waiting for DX11 news from nVidia. Now, my wish has come true.. I'm going to wait for prices and sell my 295 most likely to help fund a new 480. Sure none of us really can know for sure, but does anyone think the first line of cards would come with watercooling compatibility, blocks etc? Do you think selling a 295 for one of these would be a good choice, being a performance pc user?
well i expect that water blocks for the cards will come out quite shortly after release like it did with the 5xxx series cards
I don't think it's a good idea to upgrade from a GTX295 right now. It's still going to destroy all games. Alot extra cash for the subtle dx11 touches that will likely be seen is a complete waste.
I doubt I'll be upgrading any time soon to ATI or Nvidia's new GPU's. its a never ending upgrade path, by the time i have stripped the set up water cooled it put it back together got the drivers stable ... a New bloody card appears ...or a new cpu ..
Then Charlie and Lars add some more pain for those Nvidia fanbois... http://www.semiaccurate.com/2010/03/01/fermi-power-requirements-leak/ But Nvidia, allegedly don't want anyone to talk about it... http://www.semiaccurate.com/2010/03/02/nvidia-threatens-its-partners-cebit/ So why don't you just look forward to one of these bad boys? ... http://www.semiaccurate.com/2010/03/02/nvidia-threatens-its-partners-cebit/ Obviously the Nvidia stories should be taken with a pinch of salt due to Charlie's well recorded somewhat jaundiced view of the boys in green. One wonders if Bit-tech, PCpro et al have been similarly warned?
power requirements a WHOLE 2 amps more than a 280.... 470 > 5850 and 480 > 5870 = fail? nvidia has an nda for a show before its official announce = evil
It does seem strange, that rather than using partners to ramp up the rumour-mill to build the anticipation they impose gagging orders on them. Quite bizarre, especially as the awful truth will be out there, anyway, come the 26th!
What i got from this... GTX 480 requirements 600w with 42A on 12v rail shock horror. *Looks at GTX280 Box * GTX 280 - 550W with 40A ... oh the horror. And in other news on semiaccurate... shock horror read all about it! nvidia made people sign a NDA about upcoming tech!!! Wait, is that not normal for most all tech?
And in other news on semiaccurate... shock horror read all about it! nvidia made people sign a NDA about upcoming tech!!! Wait, is that not normal for most all tech? If it's good tech, tech you're proud of and which in feeding the the anticipation of it's release will only boost sales ...no, it is not. Add to that, the fact that your businees partners have seen their sales crushed because the competition have been the only game in town for the last 5 (five) months and you're telling them to keep stumm about your latest, greatest product...then no, it is not.
I think you will find it is normal practice. Leaking info is not going to bring the partners any sales any faster is it?
QFT. Nothing special about an NDA. Nvidia announced a release day and plan to reveal the cards on that day, why would the want people to leak things about the cards before that date? If their intentions were to get people to see the card they wouldn't just release it sooner, or make some official unveiling before sales start? Besides... sometimes if you have a very special and awesome product you'll want to keep things extra quiet and release it with a bang when the time is right. The setting is certainly right for it with all the rumors and opinions floating around.
it would if it is good news. if it was leaked that it would be 50% faster than the HD5870 and cost the same then i would hold off my HD5870 purchase.
Nvidia shenanigans cost them more than just being late with product. Trying to keep ATI on their toes by hiding the numbers on Fermi makes little to no sense. Had they produced some numbers they would've stopped a lot of people from migrating to the RED side.
I can unequivocally say I will definitely not be buying either a GTX 470 or GTX 480...however, will definitely buy an ATI HD 5850... ________ Rock_Babe
