I have been given a genuine activation code for Win 7 N edition but I can't find anywhere to download it. Can I use a normal Win 7 iso, is it like older version of windows, the disc contains all versions but the activation key determines what will be installed?
Although i'm not fully sure, given that its windows 7 minus a few features, i'd say the normal iso will work.
AFAIK (it's a while since I've dealt with this) all Win7 ISOs are basically identical. It's got to be worth a lash?
if you have access to a copy of windows 7 any version, copy to a folder on your pc, remove the ei.cfg file, and burn a new disk, it will then install the version related to the license key you have

Cheers for the help guys, I'm installing now on an old rig using the standard 64bit home premium ISO I downloaded from MS so we will see if it works. It's to be used on a friends build at a later date which is why I'm testing it on an old rig. If it doesn't like the key then I'm already downloading the 64bit N ISO that Lancer linked me to.
This apparently doesn't work for switching between N and standard versions. Seems silly to me, but good to know. There didn't seem to be any obviously available information as to whether N and standard versions were compatible when it comes to ISOs and licences. I guess not. Hope the downloaded ISO works fine.
N ISO was fine with the product key but it wouldn't activate, nor will it update for some odd reason.
Try activating over the phone. Generally works if you have a valid key that won't activate for whatever niggly reason.
having never even touched n versions of windows I didn't realise, good to know, but am unlikely to use
