You can uninstall SP1, and you can go back in time with your system. It works for most people... in fact it's just here, at this specific thread I read someone had a problem. It could be a system file that is corrupted, an software or driver conflict problem.
SP1 bricked my system. Luckily it didn't take too long to reinstall, and this time I installed SP1 before doing anything else. Ironically, it took less time to reinstall Windows and everything else than it did to try and update with SP1.
i to an getting bottom outs but mine are every 20 mins but i dont have sp1 installed even after a fresh install i have the same problem i loseing faith in gigabyte boreds my bored sata ports have started to fail in the last few months failing to pick up drives
If your motherboard is "bored", maybe you need to entertain it with a faster overclock. OT: Just installed it on my main rig and my gaming rig, no problems to report yet.
There have always been issues with the system packs. Best to let others be guinea-pigs lol. Regardless of whether it works for most or not, I won't touch it until I next do a fresh install of windows. It's just not worth the time and hassle if it goes wrong.
Ok, PookeyHead, let's... fix... this... thing! Part 1 > Go in the BIOS, and Load Optimize Defaults > Go under Integrated Peripheral, and set your SATA controllers to what they used to be (else you may get a BSOD at start-up) > Disable Controllers and devices you don't use. (Firewire, onBoard sound card if you have a dedicated one, etc...) > Go back to the root of the BIOS menu. Under MB Intelligent Tweaker (M.I.T) > Advance Memory Settings, set Extreme Memory Profile to Profile1. > Save & Quit and go in Windows 7 Part 2 > Go to Gigabyte website and get the latest driver. Don't install them yet. > Uninstall your Realtek drivers from Device Manager, and check the box so that Windows deletes the drivers. Then run the uninstaller. Restart your computer. > Install RealTek drivers, restart your computer. If you have any Realtek software, don't install them. > Download and install the latest SATA controller driver that enabled from Gigabyte website. > Open Command Prompt as Admin, and type: sfc /scannow. This will check for system error and repair them. Once done, restart your computer > Uninstall any security software. Microsoft Software Essential is fine, the rest remove. Usually when a Windows Service Pack screws up, it's because of a security software. So anything that is linked to security, (anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-malware, firewall... all gone) Restart your computer when done. > Download and install Windows 7 Service Pack Readiness Tool. Windows 7 32-bit Windows 7 64-bit Microsoft says that it is needed before upgrading Win7. I installed it on my desktop. > Restart your computer, close all programs, and update to Windows SP1. If you have any Beta hotfixes, or Beta SP1, you need to remove them before going to SP1. I don't know if this maters or not, but I used to use my Intel SATA controller... when I first build my computer. It was utter garbage. I never knew how Intel controller can be so sucky. This is my first controller (excluding my laptop). My music skips when on heavy HDD activity, despite having a dedicated memory card, the HDD doesn't wake up from sleep sometimes, and it failed on me. When it failed.. I said this was the last draw. I have confirmed my experience with one of my friend who has a X58 MSI board. Although, his controller didn't fail and cause data loss, like I had. He said he was disappointing and use the second SATA controller. No problem so far. BTW, when I say "fail", I mean the controller still works fine.. just that the controller or the drivers made an error the data loss occurred where Windows was beyond fixable. And that is what I did. I am using my SATA 6Gbps from Marvel, and it works wonders. Like my old computer, no problem to report. Just the Gigabyte had a miss lalebl on my BIOS, where you have an option to set it to AHCI, and another one bellow to set it IDE or RAID. I put it on RAID, and well didn't work well. I thought that IDE was legacy mode.. but no, it means "Normal". I have confirmed that with them. Now, everything is perfect.
All Steam based games now fail on my pc, after installing sp1. If i cba will look at it at weekend, prob some conflict somewhere, uninstalled sp1, works fine, so may give sp1 another go sometime. Anyone else having this issue?
Define "fail". Everything works on my side (Worms, Call of Duty 4 MW2, TF2...) Try installing Microsoft DirectX Runtime http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en
Strange. Well do as I suggest and try to uninstall your drivers, restart your computer, and re-install them. If you have Nvidia card, be sure to check the box for perform a clean install (under custom install). Did you install the "Windows 7 Service Pack Readiness Tool" (link on top) before upgrading to Win7. I know it's not part of Windows Update (well I don't think so). I did. Maybe that plays a part in explaining the problem you face.
Yep, also getting dropped network, on the odd boot or so. As we know, theres so many pc configurations, will try w7 instal, then update to sp1, then install steam, then keep installing stuff, till it fails. But im just not into pcs as i used to be, i just like things to work nowadays, oh well good old Windows, now wheres my Amiga
I am checking for a fix, this thread started.. I can't find info. I am still looking. I.. well we (as a family) have updated Win7 to SP1 on 8 PC's (mother, father, main comp, computer at my father place, brother, laptop, brother laptop, my other brother PC). Plus, 4 different computers at work (total 18), including our Win7 test machine (used to prepare to wide spread Win7 installation), and NONE showed any signs of problems. All I can think of, is that a network driver that you have, doesn't like SP1. And probably that is why Steam fails (it tries to connect to check for an update or DRM check, and it fails, as the network card doesn't respond)
Cheers matey. Have some good news. Tied it down to my blackgold tv hd card. deleted tv drivers, sp1 working in steam. Then reinstalled tv bda driver, now all is well Well so far, Hope this helps other users with this tv card.
Thanks for all that Goodbytes, but there's no way I'm going through all of that. Far too busy, far too little time. Besides, I'm seriously doubting messing with my SATA controllers will do anything. This is clearly an issue with the ethernet drivers or the hardware itself under SP1. I installed the readiness tool, as I was going to install the beta SP1 but never did. I've since restored from a back up. I just can't be arsed with SP1 to be quite frank. I've had nothing but issues since I fitted this Gigabyte board, and this is just the latest issue. I'll stay with Win7 without the service pack until LGA2011, then install SP1 on my new build.... which will not have a gigabyte board in it.
I still think that you have a faulty chipset Pookeyhead. I doubt the board power management difference compared to mine, larger heat-sink, and additional network card explains why I have a good experience with my Gigabyte board and not yours. (Then again, the UD5 was released after the UD3R, if I am not mistaken, so they might have fixed a lot of stuff we/I don't know about). Oh there is a new BIOS our for your (and mine) board. I did update my BIOS before going to SP1, so it might be the key solution. But what I do know, is that Intel screwed up with the X58 chipset, and CPU power management. I guess they tried to much be what they aren't (Nvidia chip-set), and screwed up big time. It might just be me, but I notice way too many issues in general, on all board manufactures, compared to previous chip-sets... Or maybe more people upgraded to it. I notice a new readiness package from Microsoft for Windows 7. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=914fbc5b-1fba-4bae-a7c3-d2c47c6fcffc Maybe that has the fix you need.
What I did, as I was updating several computers, was to download the service pack file itself rather than let windows update install it. It's worked a charm on my desktop, laptop and two netbooks. No conflicts or hangs. I did have bother installing ie9 through wu last night but tonight it went through fine.
