I am trying to share my broadband from my win98 machine to my xbox for some online gaming action! As instructed I have added a second NIC, set it up with the standard ip of 192.168.0.1 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 for my xbox to use. When I enable the ICS on the sharing computer, I cannot get any connection on it! As soon as I switch ICS off, the connection comes back? I have never had to use ICS before, I have heard that it is poo? It may be something simple, but I wanna be playin Halo online by tonight Cheers for any help
I've got a router at home so it's a little different for me. As far as i know the Xbox just hunts for a DHCP server to get a IP and connects to the internet over the LAN. http://www.xboxmagonline.com/xbox/online/xboxlive_connected_3.html might be of use to you? EDIT: possibly also http://www.xbox.com/LIVE/connect/ics_win98se.htm
Thanks, those were helpful. I have had a little more joy after playing about with my firewall settings, doh!!! I can now see a game through gamespy arcade, but it drops connection when i go to join? Oh well, keep at it!
Does your firewall allow unrestricted net access for the Xbox? It might be blocking a service it needs to connect to the game?
