I just installed WinMe on a friends pc, after wiping 98 off. It's an older pc Cyrix - MII 233 and in the Display options it only allows selection of 16 colours and 640x480 display.

I know this is probably a display driver issue but because there's no conflict in the System Props with the Display Device I wasn't sure. The Standard VGA driver is currently installed. I don't know the graphics card so is there a program that will tell me the specs of the system available? Then I'll beable to download the right drivers I guess. Or if it could be something other than the drivers let me know thanks.. :worried:

u could always take the card out and search the FCCID number in google
or, usually the older videocards dont have heatsinks on them, so u could read the type of card right off of the gpu.
this, btw, is a display driver issue.

On some (hopefully most), the adapter name is displayed on power-up, right before the BIOS screen. If you're quick, you could get the info from there.

Don't know if this is any use but I took a System Report in a program called Fresh Diagnose which is supposed to give a complete report on system hardware and software. For the display adaptor it just said Standard VGA, it didn't display the card. Where else should I be looking in the report?

btw.. if you're in a good mood with a few minutes spare, I can email you the report (136k Zip)..

bee2643 - I opened up the pc and I didn't realise before but I think the graphics are in-built vga. Checking in bios it confirms this - there's no graphics card but I can't see the make of motherboard when it's open.

Kong and Pranks7er - I'll try that next, I won't work on that pc till Tuesday cos it's a friends machine I'm trying to help configure.

That zip can now be downloaded by copy-pasting the following link in a new browser (don't think it works if you click straight on it) :

    http://gorguruga.tripod.com/Ruga_Sys_Report.zip

Once unzipped just open the System_Report.HTML - it's all displayed in the web browser there's no need to own the Fresh Diagnose program.

    Appreciate the help.

From the report, SIS 5597 controller chip, looked it up, and damn! It's difficult to find the driver! Anyhow, try this one. Just scroll down to SIS 5597/5598 AGP, I think it will work. No harm in trying. if comp does not start, re-start in safe mode and remove, then search google for sis 5597.
