well set up new rig and was overclocking it abit. it seems like i corrupted xp. doesnt seem to work right. alot of errors even whne cpu is clocked down. now im trying to reinstall win xp. pc goes thru the process of reinstalling. format hd n after when xp trys to copy files it always stops cause it fails to copy some files to hd. it asks if i wanna skip file but might mess up set up or make win not run properly. i tried quick format n full format same problem. also tried with different win xp discs. im trying to install win xp at 11.5x166 on a amd 2600 cpu
Might also be worth clearning the cmos and seeing if that sorts things. Can you post a hardware spec or add if to your sig?
my rig is: amd mobile 2600 with sp97 + antec tornado + as5 abit nf72 1gb 2x512 ocz pc 3500 eb ram 120 gb samsung sata hd ati radeon 9800 pro sb audigy platinum antec true blue 480 antec super lanboy case
xp setup makes it to 24% when its copying files. it fails at mfc40u.dll was not copied correctly. i tried to clr cmos same thing.
well not to sure how i would run memstat on the ram if i cant setup system. do u need windows xp running to do it? well i pulled out the stick of ram in my abit nf7s mobo in dimm 2 and now it works. so i guess one of my ocz pc3500 eb is no good. when i get xp setup will run memstat86 on it. how is ocz with rmas?
Memtest runs from a bootable CD or floppy, so Windows not required. I've seen this a few times that when installing Windows the smallest flaw in your RAM will cause problems, the funny thing is that once Windows is set up and running the RAM will function without errors.
well ran memstat. not too sure on how it works. i stopped b4 it could finish but i had like 86000 errors... im no expert but guess my ram is shot. gonna rma back to newegg.com.. looks like newegg is out of stock on that ram u think they take it back n send me pc 3500 platinum n i will pay the 30 difference?
take out the ram and make sure its properly seated in the slots, i had the same prob on my a7v8x deluxe and now i get no problems
Try running a low-level format on the harddrive, and install again. Some harddrive sectors may be corrupted, and that's why it might not be copying right.
