well set up new rig and was overclocking it abit. it seems like i corrupted xp. doesnt seem to work right. alot of errors even whne cpu is clocked down. now im trying to reinstall win xp. pc goes thru the process of reinstalling. format hd n after when xp trys to copy files it always stops cause it fails to copy some files to hd. it asks if i wanna skip file but might mess up set up or make win not run properly. i tried quick format n full format same problem. also tried with different win xp discs. im trying to install win xp at 11.5x166 on a amd 2600 cpu

run memtest86(.com) on it. Sounds like memory trouble.

Might also be worth clearning the cmos and seeing if that sorts things. Can you post a hardware spec or add if to your sig?

Probably the CD although it could be the hard drive. I've had install problems caused by both.

Memtest runs from a bootable CD or floppy, so Windows not required.

I've seen this a few times that when installing Windows the smallest flaw in your RAM will cause problems, the funny thing is that once Windows is set up and running the RAM will function without errors.

Try running a low-level format on the harddrive, and install again. Some harddrive sectors may be corrupted, and that's why it might not be copying right.
