I haven't had a legit windows since XP mostly due to living in China for 5+ years. I've been running win10 since the consumer priview came out (day 1) and now it seems that I have win10 pro. I will be upgrading/downsizing to a skylake mITX build around mid september and I'm not clear on what will happen. I will carry over all my drives so will I have an issue when I connect this SSD to the new computer and want to do a fresh install? I'm not sure how this works. If I need to buy a copy of win10 I don't mind. I didn't buy win7 because it was not really feasible to due in China. I am a grad student at UoR and my fiance at UCL so we should be able to get a student copy but I've been unable to find any information on this thus far. Does anyone know more about this?

I didn't have an original licence as I got my win 7 in China and did a fresh install with win10 consumer preview. I will pop my SSD into my new system, I would like to do a fresh install after the October SR2 release. I was under the impression that for being a beta tester for win10 that we would get to keep it...

Sorry, but beta testers do not get to keep a free Windows 10 license. If you do a clean install, you'll have to break down and buy a legit copy.

I suppose you could always buy a legitimate 8.1 license, then upgrade for free.

My non genuine W7 ultimate updated and activated with no nagging to W10 pro today.

    seems Microsoft are allowing it.
