1. Is it possible to join a Windows Server 2000 domain? (using the professional, of course) I know about the roaming users problem, but it's not an issue in my case. Have joined a WinSrv2003 domain with Win7 and didn't encounter many problems, but I'm worried about 2000 as it's even older. 2. Are Office XP and 2003 installable on it?
Not sure about Win 2K server domains - haven't used win2K for years (all done in Linux now). Office XP installs and runs fine (there is a problem with Outlook passwords though IIRC), I no longer have this installed as I use Open Office. 2003 should install and run fine.
Since we're asking random Win7 questions, does anyone know off hand what it's installed footprint is?
why would you want to join a 2000 server its about as secure as a cat flap and is no longer supported. im not sure if it recieved the update to allow windows 7 to join the domain. 2003 did as ive run that before and after making sure it was updated i had no issues. i wouldnt even use office XP as it will cause you a lot of headaches 2003 will be perfectly fine though.
1. Yes but it's messy. 2. Yes. Windows 7 Professional with all appropriate updates on my system runs in at 13.8 GB. I've ignored the program folders as that's a serious shedload more! Most of the time Sometimes you simply have to make it work as there is no budget for upgrades. I don't even want to think about the number of legacy servers on my office network. I work with WAN rather than LAN users but even that could be defined as "interesting"! Windows 7 systems connecting to a bespoke application that was coded 8 years ago for IE6? Fun!
