Anyone found anything particularly useful? Obviously the desktop is where I do the real work but I quite like the active tiles when I hit start and some of the apps, such as some of the news apps like the register are quite good. Anything else anyone has found of use?
Honestly most are pretty awful, I think developers are still trying to get to grips with the UI or something. Here are some: Clock (too add a bloomin' clock to the start menu ) Pin steam (pins steam games + nice covers) Board express (for forums) Skype Endgadget Tomshardware The last two are pretty aweful, the websites are much better but they do have live tiles. I also quite like stumbleupon.
I would like add Canada's only apps: -> CBC News (ok app) -> CTV News (ok app) -> Canadian National Film Board (very good app) I find it funny that a governmental department not only was one of the early first app in Windows 8, but its really good one.
Let me add to the list: - /r/etro As for games - Ilomilo Plus (indi game, not on Steam) - The new Windows 8 games: Solitaire, Minesweeper (there is an RPG adventure mode in it), etc.
To add to the list: - NBC News. Best news app so far. Very fast, well build, looks nice. Complete with Back/Forw mouse button support. Downside: No search support, and unable to get the article URL to copy it in some fashion (to share for example), or bookmark it on your web browser. But its one of the better apps. Definitely worth a look - Vimeo. Super fast startup, looks nice, works well. No search, though. Hopefully that will be added soon.
