Does anyone know of a good way of creating an etched effect on the entire surface of a window? What i was thinking of was making a window with the entire surface etched and in the center, a logo of some kind recessed into the plastic. Then I would use LED's to light up the plastic from the sides. Beacause of the way light travels in plastic you would not see the light in any other areas than the logo where the light would break as it hits the edges of the logo. I have access to a cnc machine and would easily be able to create the logo, but i don't know how to create the etched effect... I would reather not use a sticker. I was thinking about trying to get it sand blasted... would this work? The only other way i can think of is to sand paper the whole surface, but this would give a grained effect from whichever direction i have sanded in... If anyone has done any of the things i have described above i would love to see the effects, thanks..
Go to home depot.. they have "frosty" coating (paint section). It works well on plexi and comes in tons of colours.
th problem with only altering the surface is that the light passing through will not refract of the surfaces and so the lighting will not work. I plan on trying each method out on scrap over the easter holidays, i'll post some pics up then.
Sand blasting will work. I believe that is what _ferry_ did for his mousepad which turned out awesome. Edit: link, look near bottom
It might be a bit pricey but you could get it Laser Etched. I believe that's how modsquad got his effect (See the lower half of this page: http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=62286&page=31&pp=20 )
