I have a problem (hence asking the techsupport people here). My music / print server that I have just setup is running Windows 2000 server, and connected to the surrounding nodes via a workgroup, and everytime you try to access the shared folder, it prompts for a username and password.

Whereas I know the credentials to access the folder, i'd want it to authenticate without asking. I know this could be done by setting up a domain, which is a long term plan, but I can't afford to upgrade the extra computers to Vista business / XP pro, as i'm moving out at the end of this month.

    Any ideas?

Tun off simple filesharing on any of your pc's to start with - then make sure that the username you use on all the pc's is also on the box you wish to connect to. it should then work without asking for a user/pass

On every PC which needs to connect to the server:
Click Start, click Run, and type control userpasswords2
    Click Advanced tab
    Click Manage Passwords
    Click Add

For the log on to box, it's either servername or \\servername
