Hello, Here are my system specs. Asus maximus formula III ati Radeon 5870 4gb corsair Ram 700 watt cooler master powersupply Core I 7 2.8 processor 2 sega hard drives 1 320 gb other 250 GB. Windows 7 64 bit. I recently installed windows on my newly build system. I only installed one drive and that was the seagate 320 GB drive. after windows installation and all I updated my Asus bios to version 1305. Right after installation of the new bios the system would try to boot but wont go to windows rather stop at the DOS prompt stating that cant boot up . I thought my BIOS screwed up everything. However I was wrong The boot up device just needed to be mentioned as the 320 gb HD since I took out the WINdows cd away. But since I just updated the BIOS so the only thing I thought was that BIOS messed it up. Desperately I inserted the windows 7 64 bit cd again and it reached the point to install windows again. Since i gave up all hope on my windows hence I tried to re-install it. On the drive menu now it showed me 2 drive partitions one was for 100 MB and other for the remaining part of the 320 GB. this must be since I was reinstalling windows on a installed windows HD and stuff. I tried to delete that 100 Mb partition but was unable to Since that was the basic and the remaining IF deleted would have made it One drive again. I was unable to understand that and installed windows with that 100 mb partition lying there. 3 days my comp worked fine but today when I woke up it just wont boot. Hung on the startup screen. I tried everything I can but nothing helped. I think the partition of 100 Mb that I left conflicted or something that's all the explanation I can think of . I watched Shutter island on it last night and just closed it and now it wont boot. Scared that something can happen to my precious data on my single drive I thought of reinstalling windows again in a hurry just to transfer my data to a oold drive I have and then doing a fresh install clean one. I quick installed transferred all data to old drive then did a clean install with the existing 320 gb seagate and a new drive that's Sata seagate 250 GB ( removed the old drive for now after backing up all data in it ). This time I figured out how to delete that 100 mb partition of my 320 GB hard drive and all I could see while installing were 2 drives 320 gb and 250 gb. everything installed shut down pc. Took out the new 250 gb drive. connected the old drive and transferred all data on the primary 320 gb. now shut down again and took out that old hd for good. Now connected my newly bought 250 gb which I have decided to keep for data connected to the pc internal and it showed both HD in bios. when I start windows I cant see the other drive. It was showing my old drive seagate 80 gb which I just disconnected but this new drive its now showing. Then I read on google all the steps and did them. Went to manage drives. Clicked on the 250 gb drive. Initialized then quick for mat. All done its showing in the disk management as a 250 gb sea gate drive healthy but i cant see it in my computer . Still not showing. I don't know what else to do. Anyone can help?
Somewhere I read about jumpers but the new drives don't have those I guess. So I don't have to worry about jumpers I guess. 2 black wires came with the asus board I guess since I didn't install the board myself . They are black in color and say something like ASL Link Black color. Both the HDs are connected via those wires and my index rating with them is 5.9 7200 Rpm drives.
Just found out a very interesting thread . It told me that the main problem is that when i was installing windows 7 the other drive was connected and some MBR files etc are on that now. Odd thing from Microsoft. THats why its not showing. Anyway i can get the drive working and revert all this ?
I found a software at the sea gate site. Dick detector. With that i tried to detect , format this hard drive and made it a logical drive for data. Doing that erares the MBR stuff which was not allowing it to be detected and now its showing in My computer . working like a Charm.
