ya, your losing about 600MBs of ram use. And a way more stable OS. I was running Win 7 64 with 4GBs for over a year. Its enough to run its perfectly fine. Upgrading ram can boost some performance but I now have 6GBs and see nothing more than a 3 - 5 second increase in load times. My upgrade to a 10K rpm drive did more..
Who's ever idea this was, The Steam Hardware Survey, I hope they got a big raise and a free car cause this is great. I think it's funny that I contributed to stats in 4 different OS. Win 7 Win 7 64 XP OS X but yeah Win 7 64 is great and OS X SUCKS. People please let go of those 8800's. get a Gtx 460 or a HD 5850 because your holding gaming back.
I find the fact that (assuming I've read the stats correctly) ~10% of the users have networks <512Kbps more depressing than that about the single-core CPU's. And to the 1.75% that have over 1TB free space, I'm really jealous
The hardware surveys have been going on for ages. Valve upgrades its dev hardware based on these surveys. And actually people can keep their 8xxx series for a little while longer, I want the Intel GPUs gone.
Using Windows 7 64 bit makes perfect sense. It's a good, modern OS with good support. The people using 3GB of RAM aren't necessarily the same people on Win 7 64 bit. The 3GB of RAM thing basically sounds like people are getting 4GB kits for machines running the 32-bit version of XP, Vista or Win 7. I'm guessing a lot of these people installed the 32-bit OS when they only had 1-2GB of RAM, and upgraded to 4GB of RAM without reinstalling the OS with 64-bit, either because they had an OEM installation or disc, or lost the discs.
I want it, so i can upgrade from the Ti4200 in my old rig Do I confuse steam? My account regularly logs in from the old rig, the new rig and the netbook Hmmm, maybe lots of people have 2GB, lots have 4GB and 3 is just the average *duck*
Maybe they can tell what machine you are running which games on. I wouldn't be surprised if they store different machine profiles for each account.
Break it down, yo. 0.35% have less than 512MB 2.65% have 512MB - 999MB 8.48% have 1GB 25.65% have 2GB 28.04% have 3GB 22.31% have 4GB 12.52% have 5GB+
It's the same account, but yeah...GTA4 does seem to lag just a tiny bit on the netbook Naah, you're right of course. I play Psychonauts and Deus Ex on the netbook. All the rest will run on my other machines, except GTA4 which isn't even installed yet, it awaits the next machine due this winter.
Well, I'm part of the single core crowd and proud of it. Still not come across a game that's made me honestly need to upgrade (and no, I don't own Crysis).
single core systems suck most of the time , mite not make the game faster but some games can use 2 cores, that's not the point thought as it makes the system operate smoother overall as you do have system overheads that can spill over to the second core that can't happen under an single core system (as well it mite be an p4 or Celeron or core2 Celeron if its single core or c900 for laptops )
Maybe if developers started making more games that actually utilize these new cards, people would upgrade. My 9800gt still runs games maxed out at 1920x1200.
What new games does an 9800GT run at 1080 maxed out? I've got a GTX275 and I can't max every new game out. Not completely, with AA and AF fully cranked.
Maybe he were just saying that he can choose the 1920x1200 from the game option, whatever fps he got afterward?
One thing responsible for that: small-town OEMs Honestly, you see them charging £400 for a machine worth £80. And people just don't know better a lot of the time. Also, has anyone realised these IRRITATING facts? (1) 64-bit operating systems have been around for years and years (2) They are now dominant and will become more and more so (3) Flash is used by almost everyone, for everything, and is mandatory for about 70% of the internet (4) Adobe still haven't made a 64-bit version of it or announced a fixed deadline or clear time scale for doing so (5) None of the other major companies implicated have resolved to move away from flash dependency It makes me ****ing rage.
