I think I may have found a solution/workaround for you - though I have not tried implementing it: From Free great programs for Windows 7: "TeamViewer - TeamViewer establishes connections to any PC or server all around the world within just a few seconds. You can remote control your partner's PC as if you were sitting right in front of it." From Teamviewer website: Be interested to know if someone can get this working. EDIT: Just spoke to their tech support in Germany and a very nice lady assured me that Teamviewer is not linked to the Microsoft RDC protocol at all and you can DEFINITELY use the FREE version across your home network to control Media Centre. Someone want to test and report back? Crazy B
As I say in the rest of my post you qutoed, XP mode isn't useless in the sense that it performs a useful function. I'm simply saying that anyone here at Bit should have the tech savvy to realise that they don't need to pay the extra £30 or whatever it is to gain the XP mode function (i.e. Professional Edition instead of Home Premium) when they can get the same functions for free by downloading Virtual PC and using an old XP licence
It's also worth noting the difference between compatibility mode and XP Mode (there seems to be some confusion). XP mode relies on virtualisation. Your CPU needs to offer virtualisation hardware support if you are planning to run XP Mode, whilst any version of Windows 7 offers the choice of running programs in compatibility mode irrespective of processor. My Home Premium arrived in the post yesterday from PC World too (yes, I bear the shame of buying from any part of DSG). Also got the advance e-mail as did others. For once, I have to raise my cap to PC World - thanks Build and install this weekend...
i cant wait to get my bootable cd, ( no other way of instaling it ) i cant download it you as when i paid the £39, the page that came up with my serial number on, for my download, got got closed by mistake and i cant seem to be able to find it for my download, so now i have to wait for my bootable cd.... what a bummer eh take care all
I just looked on my amazon account and it says (for Home Premium, £64 pre-order) Delivery estimate: 26 Oct 2009 - 28 Oct 2009 Dispatch estimate: 21 Oct 2009
I've had Ultimate installed on my work laptop for the past few weeks. I can't even bare the thought of going back to XP now. Its like the transition from Win98se to XP, Win98 just felt so old once you left it behind
Seems PC World have got their act together My dad's Home Premium arrived today. Shame I have to wait 'til Thurs for the Student deal download
im very impressed with pc world this time. i got mine today and now eagerly awaiting for my shiney new samung f3 before installing!!! come on ebuyer faster faster!!!
Windows 7 Professional delivered ohhh about a month ago now thanks to msdnaa unfortunatly i don't have a nice box Seriously though i need professional because um it was the only rtm one my college offered and if we need to some of the most boring work ever at home the virtual pc features are pretty useful.
Got my copy today as well. To be fair, we probably got it due to their incompetence to get the dates correct rather than the goodness of their hearts My theory is they just shipped it the moment they got it and are likely to get a rather strongly worded letter from ms
Yes, that's exactly why it's been sent early. Microsoft have given permission for retailers to send them out early as there are nationwide postal strikes on Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd. At least that's what ebuyer told my friend yesterday. Got to love Royal Mail... meh
Mine too, originally my order said that it would be delivered by first class royal mail, but has now been shipped by DHL , the postal strike must have caused them to change the shipping method... Unfortunately in my case today there will be no one in to sign for it....
