Quick, slightly off-topic question: Has anyone here installed one of the MSDN versions (labeled as Retail) and subsequently activated it with a key from an actual retail box?
I got my copy of Ultimate on the 18th and activated the 19th at like 1:08 AM Love it *fyi its a promotional because its through a Windows learning program because where I work etc... its a legal copy
No, but seeing as MSDN allows you to create 10 keys, assuming each key is allowed 5 activations, that's up to 50 installs you can do! Seeing as it's only been out for a matter of weeks/months you can't have used them all up already!! I see no reason why the MSDN install wouldn't activate with any other legit key though. The ISO is standard and there is no trace of MSDN in it.
The reason I asked is, that I bought Win7 Pro and Home Premium for myself and a friend, respectively, back in July when preorder offer was on in the UK. About a month ago his old Windows installation got borked and considering the imminent upgrade to Win7 I installed a copy of Win7 HP, which I'd downloaded via our company's MSDN account. Of course without giving him one of our MSDN keys. I reasoned, that with the image supposedly being the same as the retail disc it would only take entering the retail key, once we got our copies (we don't live in the UK, so hurray for the imminent postal strike ), to activate it correctly. I'd rather not set his system up from scratch one more time, if I can help it.
Got my copy from Curry's yesterday. Well, my mam did, anyway. I picked it up today, in a hungover state. May install later, after sleep. Is there a telephone activation option with Win7?
Mine came this morning from Amazon via DHL nice driver left it in the kids play shed and put a note through my door (Don't you just hate it when they return things to the depot if your not in!!) will probably install it in a few days once i've backed up all my files... Ive got to say i'm feeling quite pleased with the 89.99 July pre-order deal i , play are today charging over 200quid for the retail version of win 7 pro - it's nice when you get a bargain......
Mine turned up this morning...... only took about an hour for a full install (including all my own stuff) for the system to be fully up and running. Well chuffed. Even though I got to eventually like Vista this is a big improvement, fresh install or otherwise!
Ho hum, mine hasn't arrived yet. Never mind, its not like I'm going to install it anytime soon anyway.
It is fast. Runs fewer processes than Vista, works faster than both Vista and XP and it actually something approaching a mature operating system from M$ On the other hand it's a shame there are like a gazillion lines of code behind it that is full of holes .. but you can't have it all
