Eh, Windows is still trying to update the Excell 2007 trial that i don't even have anymore. These OSes are really messy
you could always install the retail version and "convert" it to oem with the various "loaders" that are out there. Could be classed as illegal but afaic its not as your installing the same version that came with your lappy Its their own fault that you have to use this method as they should supply an oem disc for your machine imo. The fact that its trying to update something you dont even have anymore means it wasnt a clean install, possibly just a restore :/
There's a way to convert a retail install dvd to an oem one, it involves altering a line in a file. I did it for the purpose of installing Win7 oem, only having a retail dvd to work with. Worked a treat. Ah, here we go. You have to convert your dvd to an iso, then mount the iso to change the ei.cfg file. Once done, burn the new iso which can then be used to (re)install oem.
jesus whats with all these work arounds. use a windows 7 x86 Home premium disc, install and enter your key it will install home premium for you. END OF CHAT. worse case issue is that windows will fail to activate and you have to spend 5 mins on the automated phone to get it done. ive done this 100's of times and works EVERY time. OR use the hidden repair partition which is why they dont supply a DVD anymore cause the nick a bit of your HDD to do it instead.
If you need one send me a message and I can post you a Dell version OEM disk. We got a stack of around 50 with a load of laptops we bought. I'm guessing that would be legit as your putting your own code in. The OEM (Dell at least) work on other brands as we're constantly using them to fix students home PCs.
Whats the reason for the wipe? is it purely to get rid of the crapware? if there is some other issue its just going to reappear if you use the image disks you created.
