Let me start by saying that I have googled everything and been all over the internet to fix my issue, I spent 8 hours scouring the internet last night. Microsoft (MS) is completely useless and the people at ASUS are like a bunch of monkeys that learned English from a book that was a photocopy of a photocopy with coffee stains.

Let me also add that all of my windows keys and DVDs are legit (not pirated). The iso for Win7 was uploaded to me by a friend that works for a large company. My Win7 key is a LiveKey if it matters. I dont even make it that far in the install anyway, no where near it actually.

Things to keep in mind: I burned the OS install DVD at the slowest speed possible and with no applications running. I have done all this before. I understand computer terms. Nothing in my PC is secondhand and I have been through the process of trial-and-error by switching sata ports around between the HDDs and DVD drive, removing drives that weren't needed for the install, tried different DVD drives, tested my HDD's using S.M.A.R.T., have reinstalled drivers that were already in place and have updated every possible driver down to the USB ports. I also have reburned the ISO and it still didn't work.

Ran avast and several online virus websites to check for infections and also ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

I have installed Win7 Starter with no problems and Win7 Ultimate (not KN) x86 with no problems with a friends CD key and DVD on the same hardware I am attempting to install the 64 bit KN version of Ultimate

    Specs:
Windows XP Home x86 build 2600 Service Pack 3
All drivers are up to date according to Driver Detective for the above OS.
Samsung SH-S223B with Firmware SB02 (SATA, not IDE)
Motherboard Chipset Nvidia nForce GeForce 8300

Now to the topic. I am attempting to install Windows 7 Ultimate KN x64 on a brand new 750gb Seagate Barracuda HDD. I get all the way to where it asks for your location and keyboard input. I then click Next and it says "Setup is starting" The computer is quiet for about 5 minutes and then it suddenly kicks up and the DVD drive gets loud. It then comes up with a dialog box that says: "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing......" and something along the lines of it's safe to insert a driver CD and to remove the install disk.
The box asks me if I want it to scan for drivers related to the problem or to browse for the folder myself. It will let me search in any storage device attached to the PC.

My diagnoses: A CD/DVD drive is plug and play so that shouldn't be the issue. MS also said it is compatible with Win7 x64.

So that leads me to believe it is a Sata Controller issue on my ASUS board (listed in sig). What kind of drivers is the install looking for? .exe files didn't show up in the browse obviously. I downloaded them just to make sure (I chose the win7 64 bit)

I have downloaded every kind of file on the face of the planet that have to do with Sata controllers:
Win Vista x64 from Nvidia (.exe)
Win 7 x64 from Nvidia (.exe)
Win XP x86/x64 from Nvidia (.exe)
    NVIDIA_AHCI_SATARAID_XPVistaWin7.zip
ITE Tech. Inc. - Storage - ITE IT8211 ATA ATAPI Controller

What files might the OS installer be looking for? .inf? .cab? .rar?

    Has anyone experienced this problem?

Am I missing something so obvious that moderators should IP ban me from Bit-tech?

The only thing I haven't done is try to install the OS on a different PC as no one I know has a computer that wasn't bought from walmart 4 years or more ago.

Do you have a 4GB USB key handy? Download the Windows 7 USB Key app, set your BIOS to boot from USB before CD-ROM and try the install from there.

If it still fails, you'll be able to attribute the problem to the ISO.

Hi mate. The driver files are .inf file types and it's best to load the text mode drivers. have you used the on-board HDD management utillity to classify the drives(ie; RAID type or JBOD)? Some times you have to load the drivers, replace the install disc and then press refresh for the drives to be discovered.
A couple of things to try.

Try burning the iso again it sounds like it might have dropped a file somewhere, I had the same trouble with an xp disc a few years ago

    Thanks for the fast replies

My friend who sent it to me told me that my particular version cannot be started from a USB key. And I don't have a 4gb anyway. :sigh:

Stated in my description that I tried that. :D

Ya lost me there  but I don't think the issue has to do with RAID or JBOD drivers because I dont have a RAID set up. Just a Western Digital Caviar Blue 500gb (WinXP) and a brand new Seagate Barracuda 750gb (for win7)

I decided to go ahead and use my external hard drive I had lying around to install windows 7 with that. And if it doesn't work then the problem is obviously the iso. And if it does work then what do I do?

Does that mean Windows 7 just rejects my Sata controller or once I have it installed do I just download the necessary drivers?

Thank you capnPedro. I will try that shortly.

HOWEVER, I just used Undisker to make a bootable external Hard drive and while using it I noticed this:

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

The iso file itself that I have been toying around with for two days only shows 2.00 GB when I right-click it to view the properties and you can clearly see in the picture that it is 2.70 GB

    Do I have a corrupted/unfinished/retarded ISO file?

I think your ISO is corrupted... If you can ask around for Win7 of your edition (but obviously use YOUR product key), it would simplify a lot. I am sure it's due to a corrupted download.
Oh and also make sure that the floppy drive is disabled in your BIOS, and that you have the latest BIOS for your motherboard.

All is well. The iso was just corrupted that's all. Except my stupid ass blew it all out of proportion. Ugh. My buddy FTPed the file to me and it got here just fine.

And using a different CD key with this version or using ANY other copy of Win7 with this key will not work as it is a LIVE CD KEY.

Said that in my topic and on an above post

    Thanks for the responses guys.

Neither have I & I'm a Certified partner dealing in licensing.

The KN version is also strange for your location

Windows 7 KN: Windows 7 KN is meant for Korean market, and includes the same functionality as Windows 7 K, except that it does not include Windows Media Player and related technologies such as Windows Movie Maker, links to download Windows Live Messenger, or links to a Media Player Center Web Site and a Messenger Center Web site.

Sounds like a MSDN version by the ISO name
