Home Premium 64-bit. It's in my sig. Also noticing that even more computers sold in stores are coming with 64-bit even if they don't have 4GB of RAM. I like that.
Pro x64; I didn't realise (having never considered going back) that you're still limited to such a small amount of RAM under x32. Stupid of me to assume there would be a workaround to what is a fundamental limitation, I suppose. Yes, not to mention encouraging developers to abandon the PC as a retail platform. Reflect how you'd feel if you came home to discover Microsoft stealing the product of your hard work...
Bah fine, I'm sorry if my attitude offends some people but I buy what I think deserves to be bought, the reason I don't buy every single little thing is because of this: Why should I get ripped off for a second rate product? Why should anyone get ripped off for a second rate product? So in the case of PC games (which is what everyone's complaining about) I will download the demo and if I think it's good and like it I'll buy it, if there is no demo available then I will pirate it because it's the only way to actually try it out (I don't have PC gamer friends ) and if it's crap I'll delete it, if it's good I'll buy it. I personally don't see the problem with that but no doubt I'll get flamed to hell and back for it so whatever I can live with that. Now I've said my piece, LET THE FLAMES COMMENCE! *Put's up firewall* EDIT: Also maybe I was a bit too "pro piracy" so sorry nexxo, I'll try to hold my "I'M A PIRATE!" tongue in future
You pay for every little thing because every little thing deserves to be paid for. I can't see why the little things in life are less important than the big ones - do you buy the expensive stuff at supermarkets and then shoplift the chewing gum and batteries on the way out? You buy what you think deserves to be bought - congratulations; that doesn't entitle you to steal what you don't. You get what you pay for - if you want a second-rate product, pay for it. If you want a first-rate product, pay more for it. If you don't want to pay for either, then settle for neither - either you want it or you don't; stealing it is not going to make the product better and it doesn't encourage developers to improve. I completely agree that in the case of £35.99+ games that don't have demos, and I cannot buy from a store I can return it to, and I cannot try on a friend's computer, I would download to try-before-I-buy. Yes, I know I create a market for warez, yes, what I do is illegal - but I wouldn't buy a car without a test drive and I won't buy a game that I can't take back without playing it first. I've never had to do it, but of all the forms of piracy, I consider it the least worst on the basis that if you don't like it you delete it and if you do you buy it. That way the developers haven't been unfairly deprived - if you'd bought it legally, you would've returned it anyway. There's a distinction between that and downloading it, and then keeping it but not paying on the basis that "I shouldn't have to pay for this 'second rate' product." Unfortunately even the crap products aren't free; if you like it enough to keep it, show some support and pay for it. In your case, however, you can't use the keep/delete argument. It's not a game, it's W7 - and W7 RC was around for months as a 'demo' and legitimate alternative to piracy. You could, in fact, try before you buy. Knowing that, however, you still didn't cough up the miserable sum of £absolutely nothing for it. Are you really going to suffer an attack of conscience next week and say that since you cannot/will not pay for it, you're going to uninstall it? Anyway, enough already. If a mod wants to delete my angry posts, feel free - I think I needed to shout it more than he needs to hear it...
You aren't understanding me, I know everything is equal I never said I would steal chewing gum or batteries just because of the price that they are or their value, that argument doesn't really stand up in PC games either, I paid £15 for Fallout 3 and £30 for Fear 2 with a Fear 1 bonus disc, Fallout 3 is miles ahead Fear 2 in terms of quality of game so paying more doesn't really mean you get a better quality of product, Hell I got beyond good and evil for £1 . I don't believe developers are getting unfairly treated by me deleting a game either because if I think it's crap I sure as hell wouldn't play the game for any substantial length of time just as you wouldn't play a demo for a substantial legnth of time nevermind complete the thing, I play games for about an hour and if I like it I'll buy it but if I don't I'll just get rid of it, granted you can't do that with all games such as mass effect and stuff because of their massive size but I wouldn't pirate those because I know they are good games so most of my RPG's like Elder scrolls I buy because A. I've played that before or B. I'm 90% certain they are worth buying I use the try before I buy method because just because you've bought something and don't like it there's no reason that the shop should have to refund you. You buy a product and don't like it, that's your problem, they shouldn't have to suffer because you don't like something. They are getting done out of money because they can't even just resell it. As for windows 7 Yes I could've used the RC but I didn't care for it then cause despite the hype I thought it was just gonna be as bloated and slow as vista, that and the fact I don't wanna pay about £100 for an operating system that I'm only gonna use to play games on, I am gonna buy the £30 student offer though which is a much more acceptable amount (I'd stretch to £50 if needed), it's the same situation and COD4:MW2 which I won't be playing, they charge what they like because they know it will sell meaning I'm getting ripped off which I refuse to be. I may not be uninstalling it next week but I probably won't be using it, I've spent a week and a half of constant use which I reckon is enough for me to decide whether I'd use it for gaming or not so I'll be back on Linux thanks EDIT: I'll shut up now as I think I've already went far enough >.<
ITT: Piracy - Discussions on Pro and Anti views This thread is about Windows 7, not piracy, take it to PM or create a separate thread. The mods already warned you about it, now heed their warning and take it somewhere else ladies.
You still shell out £££ for a console, right? And the fact is you could have used the RC, for free, like everyone else to see for yourself. And if you enjoy gaming enough to shell out for the game or a nice graphics card, surely an OS to run it on is part of the package? I agree with Null: This is a Windows 7 thread, not a Piracy one.
Thank you bindi! You have a great point there. Anyways, like I said, take your piracy discussions to a separate thread. OT: Anyone able to get Win7 on a netbook via the USB tool? I wanna try it for my Mini
Sure Microsoft provide the tool to do this: http://store.microsoft.com/Help/ISO-Tool http://store.microsoft.com/Help/ISO-Tool?err=t2#at2
If you have the full version, that means your about to do a clean install right? Meaning you data is already backup before installing Win7. So, I ask, what do you lose from trying? If you get to this opportunity to try, I am SURE many is interested in knowing this. In my opinion it works on both. But, Microsoft says that it's for Win7 upgrade only, as you need a previous Windows environment to be able to prepare the USB memory stick. And many don't have 20 computers at home, rather just one.
When it comes to installing via USB 'tool' then I can say yes it should work for the full version as well. I installed the RC from a thumb drive by just 'burning' the ISO from MS to the drive using UltraISO, worked like a charm.
alrighty, ill try it, just needed to know cause my little AAO doesnt have a disk drive Ill post results when I can do it
64 Pro. Msdnaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Also for anyone installing from a usb drive, just put the ISO (rip first if needed obviously) on the root of the drive, worked for me.
(3x) Ulimate x64 (1x) Ulimate x86 x64 for gaming rig, workstation and renderbox. x86 for laptop with its silly x86 processor, altho it feels so much quicker than before even after a fresh install of XP. Oh and ubuntu 9.10 on the server! HA!
