Hi Im having trouble installing the windows 8.1 update onto my pc. It will download fine from the store but i cant install it. It gets about halfway to installing it then restarts and said restoring to previous version. At this stage i have to install windows again. Have you any ideas all how to install it.
If you used a registry cleaner to tweak tool (that changed system files) at some point in time, those are usually the culprit of failing to install Windows 8.1. At this point there is nothing you can do beside a full OS re-install of Windows 8, install its updates, and then you can upgrade to 8.1. Another popular reason for the OS upgrade to fail, is that you didn't uninstall your Anti-Virus (Assuming you use something else then Windows Defender in Windows 8 (aka: Microsoft Security Essentials)). They are reports that the A/V or some security software treats the OS upgrade as an attack on the system and blocks it. Be sure to remove all your security software, restart, and try again. Usually that does the trick. If that also fails, it means that Windows has detected a driver that won't work under Windows 8.1. Sadly it doesn't tell you which one. Hopefully it is something Microsoft will provide in future version of Windows when upgrading to the sub version. Be sure to have all your software fully updated t o the latest version. They were reports of software like Razor's ones that causes trouble. In this case, uninstall them, restart, do the upgrade to 8.1, and then re-install them again once done. Hope this helps!
