So basically my girlfriends laptop keeps restarting it self after I tried to boot into safe mode using msconfig and after restarting it expecting it to go into safe mode it now wont stop updating then restarting and undoing the updates then restarting. I literally cannot believe how **** Windows 8 is at this point but has anyone got any fixes?
Was the system turned off while a update was being performed. It looks like its stuck in doing an update. Win8 is based on Win7. So this issue should exists in Win7 as well. Anyway, what I suggest is to bring your system back in time, using System Restore feature of Windows.
Fixed. Seems after 20 minutes of restarts windows 8 puts its thinking hat on and diagnoses the problem and comes up with system restore and such. I'm trying to mentally block out ever using that pile of crap.
No it's because you should have done what I mentioned. What was happening is that you turn off your system when it said "Do not turn of your system", so you feel throw that mess. Most likely what happened, is that at every reboot, it did 1 update among many, which was ended up as being reporting that it failed. So every reboot got down on that list of updates, one by one... until you reached the end, and the system rebooted, and now Windows was able to detect that the system has corrupted files ('cause it can't check for that DURING an or multiple update or multiple step update process... as it's normal that system files might be missing or different). I think it's amazing that Windows auto-start the system restore. If it didn't have this system, you would get a a vague BSOD at startup, which would possibly lead us in wrongly diagnostics the problem.. like say it's a faulty HDD or SSD (well, it can still be that).
Nope we left it for nearly 3 hours doing the same thing. It was uninstalling the update and reinstalling the update.
Is it a Lenovo? My Wife's laptop had the same issue. Turns out a piece of Lenovo bloatware was stopping the installation of the updates. Uninstalled that and they all came through again, and actually installed. Edit - it was a component of Nitro PDF getting in the way.
