Even though 8.1 has hit RTM, it seem Microsoft isn't done making changes, or updating it before GA.

Oddly in the same article there is mention of 8.1 to have a "fighting chance" of approaching the reliability of Windows 7 "in some areas." This suggests that Windows 8 is known internally to be not as reliable as its predecessor

I didn't know 8 was known for being unreliable, at least not among the public

Yea I don't think so. I think we are reading something out of context, because Windows 8 is based on Win7. Reliability should be the same.

What I think they are talking about is the Windows 8.1 Beta reliability. It probably drooped to some changes they did (probably to improve software compatibility), or the new changes done to the interface. I did face Windows 8.1 Beta screw up the interface a few times when waking up from sleep, on my laptop. Restarting explorer.exe fixed it. But this situation was very rare.. probably happened to be 3 or 4 times since... and its beta. I think that is what is being said. Microsoft just wants to be sure it's solid.

I'm not sure if it is out of context as he says "expects Windows 8.1 to be much more reliable and the word expects would normally be used when saying you are looking forward to something happening.

The only thing that does spring to mind is all the problems they have had with Surface RT, maybe it was in reference to that version.

    Could be. Make sense.
Unless the Windows 8 is not very reliable with older systems (4-5+ years old)?

For uploading, I like the Flickr Uploadr. It has a nice batch uploading process, including the option to add descriptions, tags, and create/select sets. On the desktop, I just go to the Flickr page to view photos (and I'm still not used to the new interface). The default Windows 8 picture viewing app has linked to my account, so I can view my photos there, too. On my phone and tablet, I use the official Flickr app to view photos.

Effectively being an optimisation of Windows 7 code, I'd think it would be rock-solid.

Windows 9 will be 8.2. Its just a code name.
If sales don't pick up, then it will be Windows 8.2 renamed to Windows 9, to try and get away from Windows 8. Much like Firefox 3. Where the first version had a memory leak, and even if it was fixed afterwards in a later update, people were keep saying that Firefox 3 has it, and switch to Chrome.
So Firefox switched to their way they do versions.. and now we have Firefox 26 in development.

Esp when you compare it to one of their 13" screen/tablets [£750 ish] and a similarly specced 'ultrabook'

EDIT: this, however I think will bomb spectacularly...

I'm not too sure. Windows RT 8.1 is a much better OS and the specs are higher than the Surface RT's where it counts: higher res, faster CPU. If the price is right (not iPad-like but £350,-- ish max), it could just take off.

I hope i'm wrong, and i'm not saying the Sirius is a bad device... It just strikes me as too much money...

The Surface [RT] demonstrated that people aren't/weren't prepared to pay £350+ for a windows RT tablet, despite being an impressive bit of kit [imo anyway]...

Hopefully Nokia can convince people why they'd want to...
