    Aw diddums, he's throwing a strop. Scared of big empty spaces, are we? Well, on my 2560x1600 desktop it scales just fine.

    I don't know what he finds so hard to get his head around. I rarely used the Start Menu because I found it unwieldy to burrow down cascading menus. Instead I used RocketDock and shortcuts in the task bar. You can do the same now and never see the Start Screen all day long.

    To address his concerns in turn:
    - So what? You can still side load desktop applications;
    - A mere formality to eliminate malware;
    - Incorrect;
    - Unfounded speculation and scaremongering;
    - A subjective and imprecise judgement.

    So let's sumarize the article :
    • He feels bad about the lockscreen with a background and notification icons. In other words, he thinks this :
      [IMG]
      is much, much better than this :
      [IMG]
    • Weather/Stock apps.. Well, the "fullscreen" experience is more like a huge detailed view and configuration interface. Most times, the Live tile will be more than enough.
    • Mail - not sure what his problems were, my messages are marked as read without problems.
    • He couldn't open a tab in Metro IE10. Seriously ?

    No comment.

    PS: He says "The latest versions of Mac OS X are far more usable and appealing than Windows 8.". I guess he didn't yet used the Home/End/Page Up/Page Down keys on his Mac, or he would's say that. Press Home in Browser ? It is not top of the page, it's the Back button in the browser! Press End ? Forward ! Press these 4 keys in editor ? Oh wait, did you expect them working like in Windows/Linux/Unix ? Instead, OS X has much more <sarcasm>usable/intiutive Mortal Kombat-like combos</sarcasm> of arrow keys and Shift, Option and Command - just don't forget which combo does what. Description of what the Home/End/Page Up/Page Down does :

    Yeah, "far more usable OS X" my ***.

    Oh Upgraded the XPS16 lappy. Driver support is a bit flakey

    Dell - nothing
    Logitech (G500+G19) nothing
    ATI- unsigned driver better tan nothing.

    And has anyone found a decent Win Store mediaplayer for this if you have a mixed format (mp3/flac/ogg/wma) collection

    If you cannot find Windows 8 drivers, just use the Windows 7 or even Vista ones. Run the installer in the appropriate compatibility mode.

    As for the media player: just use Winamp?

    I was using foo bar and will in desktop mode, but I was just seeing of there was a pretty one that would do it's stuff on the start screen.

    I'll have a bash with the Win7 drivers, but I'm not impressed that the likes of Dell and Logitech aren't offering support.

    You'll be lucky if Logitech do. Very lucky.

    Support for Metro apps like that will probably come in time as someone writes codecs for the platform (unless its not possible of course)

    Frankly I'm not surprised that support is not offered by hardware companies for existing products since they would prefer you to buy something new off of them rather than keep your existing devices.

    My G19 had a small hiccup once i'd installed the drivers. I first had the windows generic keyboard drivers installed, installed g19 drivers and the keyboard went off (wouldnt function as a keyboard, but the LCD came to life). Restarted a few times, still the same, no functioning keyboard.

    Unplugged from USB, plugged into different port, all drivers installed and works a treat just as before on windows 7. Just on the offchance of you hitting the same issue i did.

    Oh yes, you need the special "gamer" SetPoint. Only SetPoint 4 is out for Win8 now.

    Lol, I'm sure I don't need it, but it's kinda nice for everything to work as it is supposed to.

    So I've had it for a week or so now.

    To be honest, I don't really like it that much. Yes, the faster boot is nice, but most of the time I feel like I'm less productive than I would be if I was using a Windows 7 machine.

    Its not bad, but its not great either. Glad I only paid £14.99.

    Just my 2c
