    Oh that sucks..

I looked at the 8X but it was just a good phone, not the phone that I really wanted so I opted for the 920 :)

Fear not; that separation is not going to happen. Think about it. Why would Microsoft make all this effort (up to sacrificing WP7's upgrade path) to get all versions of the OS to share the same kernel, apps and GUI; to create a unified Windows for all devices, just to split them again? It would totally contradict their strategy.

So when the iPhone 4, 4S and 5 sold out that was just a supply problem, and no indication of their popularity also? And there is only one iOS model! How disappointing! Apple is never going to dominate the market which such a poor choice of phones. :p

Yeah, but the evidence does not support it. :D

    Greetings!
    One supplier versus several suppliers.

A small update on WP8 over here, the 820 can be had now for 629,90€ (roughly $824 or 511£). Thats the 820 not the 920.

That sounds a lot like grey import from other EU country, with the costs of shipping and "exclusivity" put on top of it. Preorder price here is around 470 euros for 820 and around 620 euros for 920. Which are pretty much the German prices.

    Makes no difference.

The iPhone 5 costs from £529,--. Those gadgets sure are expensive without a contract, no?

I believe it's an important part of marketing, not a supply problem or an indicator of demand. If sales predictions were 5 they would only make 3 or 4 available initially. It makes the release more news worthy and creates hype around the product. People want what they can't have.

@1st article: what the hell is "Java-based Valve client" ? Do they mean Steam ? All those DLLs and EXEs really scream Java to me... not. Or they mean the website ? Yeah that is totally Java...script, with lot of HTML, CSS, images and videos.

They criticize someone else, while they make a mistake of similar proportions in their article.

I'll take from your lack of actual words that you have no valid argument to make.

iphone 5 is a flagship device
Samsung galaxy 3 is a flagship device
Lumia 920 is a flagship device
820 is not a flagship device, if your willing to pay the cost for it you can get a better phone elsewhere for the same cash, For example the lumia 920 above costs similar money.

Every company trys to have one flagship device in that market segment that they push the profit on.

    Apple for example

    Iphone 5 ( Smartphone )
    Ipad 4 ( Tablet )
    Ipod touch ( MP3 )

As for sales numbers once again we still have no sales numbers from either microsoft or nokia so its just total guesswork. The fact it sold out is a good sign more than a bad sign.

Microsoft shares where always going to take a hammering unless they said they sold 100million + in launch month and that was never going to happen. ( Wall Streets crazy numbers not mine) If it sells 100 million in the next year its done well. What is windows 7 total sales numbers as i cant imagine its the 6-800million people assume its done. ( Thats the size of the market for windows apps acording to a few people on here ) Windows may be on 6-800million computers but half of that number is xp.

Nokia shares still going down cause they just sold there HQ and leased it back, Money up front great cost them more long term if they still there in a few years though.

If Nokia wants to fix there share price they should release some actual sales numbers instead of leaving the stockholders guessing, Most are guessing they are poor hence selling is the word used in stocks and shares.

Most tech companys are listed as Sell at the minute, there is only 5 that are stated as buy ( Apple, Intel, Samsung, Microsoft, Google ) The rest are hold or sell.

"Flagship device" is a relative term: the state of the art within its range of models, not across different ranges. Google might argue that the LG Nexus 4 is their Android flagship. Samsung would argue the Galaxy IIIs is. Compare specs across devices of different makes and which is better becomes a complicated story. A Lumia 820 may compare quite favourable to an iPhone 5 in some ways (battery life, SD storage, CPU speed) but not in others (screen resolution, camera resolution).

    Exactly.

The Nokia 820 clearly isn't a flagship device, that's the 920. It is a fairly NEW device, but it is not the top of the line as far as Nokia is concerned - features are present on the 920 that are missing on the 820. That's why the 920 is more expensive.

.... anyway, anything that gives some more variety in the market is welcome in my eyes. I can't stand seeing everyone use the same device with the same stupid white earphones! ;)

Does not matter what its called

820 costs the same as the 920 does that makes it pointless end of discussion.

No one will buy a 820 that costs the same as the 920 which is a much better device.

It does not. Lumia 820 is €450, Lumia 920 is €625. Just because someone did a grey import in Portugal and tries to sell it at insane price doesn't make them identical in price.

Contract price for both in the uk is below along with competing products from samsung and apple.

2 year contracts all prices took from phones4u website.

    820 is free from £36
    920 is free from £36
    Iphone 4s is £29
    Iphone 5 is £39
    SG3 is £26
    Samsung note 2 is £31

Every device listed will be cheaper brought out of contract just very few people can afford that up front commitment.

So in the uk at least the cost is the same ( very few people in uk buy a phone out of contract we have a very different system to our american cousins. Our phones are heavily subed in contracts.) Most kids are even given contract phones as they get them added to parents bill on huge discounts, Free phone + unlimited texts for like £10 for the latest blackberry ( pretty much the phone all kids still want here)

Thats why we moan at O2 and EE not allowing us to buy out our contracts when we want a new phone lol.

Does anyone actually own either phone i wonder?

Or is everyone still got 1 year + contracts.

Alot like the Surface RT not alot of people have picked one up at least on this forum (and a few others). Whilst like every other person is Andriod or IOS.

    Greetings!
Its self-evident. Rollo and Oasked did the effort though. ;)
And killed the Android rumour, fired employees, had the credit rating downgraded, closed NSN...
Another out-of-stock device, but atleast with an "affordabler" price. :p
Official prices were announced 5 hours ago via Facebook, 540€ for the 820 ($705/438£), 700€ for the 920 ($914/568£). For reference a Samsung Galaxy SIII is 600€, a HTC 8X is 630€ and iPhone 5 16GB is 690€.

    ______________

    - Windows Store now listing top paid Windows 8 apps in some markets

    - Touchscreen Windows 8 Devices: Hot or Not?

    - Asustek, Acer likely to be selected as Microsoft IDP partners for 2013 Windows, say Taiwan makers

Do you have some special taxes or what ? :D

Over here 8X is 552€ (retail), expected price of 820 is €450 (retail), 920 should be €625 (retail). Galaxy SIII is 540€ (529€ at T-Com), iPhone 5 16GB is 680€ (Orange).

The difference in iPhone price is close to the difference in VAT (20 vs 23%), but the rest is insanely overpriced.
