Basically, I'm long overdue an upgrade and wondered if I should use MC on the new machine. It's in my bedroom, and we do use it to watch DVDs etc, but I also use it to play games (e.g. Civ4). ATM, I have a hand-made IR detector and use a regular programmable remote controller. Will WMC give me any significant advantage? (Esp considering that I use Winamp most of the time)
MCE will be fine with games as its the same any nomral windows XP pc for that. The interface is great if you wanted to sit a few metres away and watch a few videos etc. Getting a TV card really makes it shine obviously. The My Music is nice (i think). Some people i know dont like it so much though, it doesnt provide many options, but its the simplicity of it that i enjoy.
Does it always come with the remote? Yeah, a (digital/Freeview) TV card would be good, although I do have a digi TV in that room already.
The remote is a seperate thing. You can find packs that include the OS and the remote but usually its a seperate accessory with the reciever for about £25
Well worth the money though if you're going to use it from a few feet away. You can get by with a wireless keyboard though, if you already have one.
MCE2005's "my music" feature is crap, and at best, "@£$%". Y? it takes over 5mins before it shows any music for me, and its all linked to WMP (which i hate too), so 2xhates = super hate
MCE is good but its need alot of initial setting up and also for it to run My music n the My Video crap well a decent machine and iff the files are stored on a server youll need gigabit otherwise you just get fusttrated
