So in the newest version of WMM, they decided to simplify things by getting rid of... ... wait for it.. THE TIMELINE! Thus throwing the most basic and essential function of any video editing software right out the window: splitting/cutting. Oh, but we have a new Trim function, you say! Well that's great, except you need an extra copy of the file for every time you want to make a split/cut and trim that perfectly with the primitive slider. Yeah, that makes things so much easier, THANK YOU MICROSOFT! Looks like i'll have to buy Pinnacle after all.
I don't know how legal this is. But if you have Vista somewhere (like dual boot), copy C:\Program Files\Movie Maker under Vista, go to your Win7 system and paste it somewhere, and now run it! Surprise it runs and you can enjoy the old one.
ah yeah.. lemme know if you need the files dragun- off topic but it's same with the sidebar.. you can copy it over and it runs in win 7 too (if you like them docked or free roaming)
Well actually Win7 gadget engine was improved and uses less resources over Vista engine. It could be important if you are not a laptop. Just things to consider
hehe I doubt it.. if you monitor the resources it takes- basically none unless the app (which is javascript) demands it.. I write gadgets, thing with the vista bar is it gives the option to dock them- some peeps want that back
+rep for this Idea! This has been one of by biggest beefs with win7... not including WMM standard... I just tried it (from my dual booted install drive, and it started up fine, imported clips, etc, but I can only see a black preview screen while playing clips from the timeline/storyboard. I can hear the audio. HOWEVER, when I click on a clip in one of the imported collections, it plays both audio and video fine!
All you have to do is grab it with WLE when downloading WLM and/or Silverlight. The problem is that the new one is rubbish.
