happens on both my dad's and my computer

thats pretty much it tbh. basically, it has that icon with the gold star, meaning networks are available, but when you go to connect, enter the right key, it tries to connect but then says it cant connect. even though its in range and you have entered the right key.

you can try this as many times as you like but it will say the same thing. if you leave it, it will connect usually about 10-15mins later. sometimes even longer.

its worth noting that this does not happen on my galaxy s2, it is always connected and i have never been disconnected so im thinking its a windows thing?

our router is not very good, its one orange sent us with our broadband package. a siemens.

    anyone know whats going on??

Could just be a weak signal that's dropping a lot of packets. Haven't got another wireless card to try with do you?

although the signal is not good, it doesnt disconnect once its conncected

im tempted to buy another usb adapter anyway as ours is bad which will boost signal whilst also ruling that out as the problem

what do you guys think of this one. has loads of good reviews

I used to have a similar problem with a linksys usb wireless adapter - my solution was to get an internal (pci) card - never had a single problem with that... It's just a cheapy from ebuyer too (tenda n something if memory serves me correctly)

Do internal pci offer better performance than usb adapter?

Not better performance particularly. Both should run at the same speed. But I, and quite a few others I think prefer PCI, it's out of the way and in my opinion gives a better connection sometimes.

And get a Tenda N PCI card like GeorgeK said, really cheap, but really good.

Exactly as above - it's no faster than the usb, but it connects automatically when I log on and hasn't dropped yet (built the pc over a year ago...)
