    Hi

I am running Win 7 and have not received any updates,(security or otherwise since Dec 2017)!

I believe that MS has stopped updating Win 7 itself but is still supposed to be offering security updates and fixes?

When I try to manually check for updates it says cannot check as update service is not active. I have checked the service and it is definitely enabled.

Can anyone advise me on this problem?

    Thanks

    Chris

    Stop the Windows Update service

    Delete contents of C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution

    Start Windows Update service

    Check again for updates

    Thanks Chairboy

Your fix worked, problem solved. I did note that before, there were hundreds of updates, following the fix, I installed all the updates available but there are only about a dozen or so in total. I hope they include all the previous ones.

    Anyway thanks again

    Chris

Smaller hotfixes become part of larger cumulative updates. A few reboots may also be in order.
