On Slashdot this morning, unsurprising but Microsoft must have one the busiest legal teams.

I doubt this company will win against Microsoft which is a shame really, since MS is so intent on suing everyone even over a similar sounding name, ie: Lindows.

Why won't they win? I reckon it'll be an interesting battle.

'Cause they're up against Microsoft, obviously more money = more lawyers, or they could just buy the name off anyway.

law works for the people with most money not always, there are bond to be *some* davids.

You'd of thought thou they would of checked the name very well before choosing it.

Its not like the name lindows, which everyone knows was designed to be derivative of windows, so i wouldn't hedge your bets on the outcome of that one.

Vista, first thing i thought of was www.av.com, wounder if they'll sue?
(i still like AltaVista, just that to use it its just av.com, less typing than google!

AltaVista is owned by Yahoo! Inc. It's also not being updated so there's not much point in using it anymore.

i think its disgusting like when ms sent letters threatning to take this kid to caught because his website was somehting like www.mikerowsoft.com mikerow his first name and soft is his surname. They eneded it without going to caught by giving him a free xbox or something. It was a long time ago so not to sure on exact details.

But still there attitude is not right, suing everyone and anyone. Like there gonna ever loose any money :)

Its microsoft, they dont think about that. They do it then trample on the person who owns the name, or sues them. They like to show whos boss. :)

mikeuk2004, quoteing a news story as badly as that is just plain dangerous.

The problem with this (totally differn't case) isbecase Mr Mike Rowe registered a name of mike rowe soft. Which was deliberately similar to microsoft. He said he'd sell it for money (this is known as name squatting and is somewhat imoral, i was using the net way before many highstreet companies had registered their names on it, and i was thaught it wasn't the done thing to squat). In my mind the kid is very lucky that 1, he was a kid, 2 MS couldn't take the negative publicity, if someone tried to make money like that off my name, i'd sue em.

Now microsoft will argue the name is shortened to Windows Vista at all times, never just vista. So this name claim will look at how it overlaps, and wether it overlaps into software. No matter what name they'd choosen some small company will of used it before.
