    Hello
Today I've replaced some stuff in my comp - to an MSI K8N Neo4 motherboard, and a Powercolor X1650 Pro graphics card. When I tried to load Windows (XP pro), it restarted the moment the loading screen started to fade in. I tried to reinstall, and now it'll restart every time it arrives to a certain part during the devices installation, which i can only persume is the part when the setup tries to install the graphics card, when usually the screen blinks\turns black for a few seconds.
I've also tried to boot with an old ELive live CD I've got. When I tried to load it with normal parameters, the screen turned off, as if it was in energy saving mode, after I chose the GUI to use. It did load and worked well if I chose a parameter set for "graphical problems". The parameters used are:
    • lang=us
    • ramdisk_size=100000
    • init="/etc/init"
    • noapic
    • acpi=on
    • apm=power-off
    • vga=788
    • splash=silent
    • initrd=miniroot.gz
    • quiet
    • boot_image=morphix
    • xmodule=vesa
    • depth=16
I persume that the standard Windows XP drivers arn't able to handle the X1650.
What should I do to install Windows and get it running ?

    Thank you very much
    Miki

I cant see it being a driver issue. that board doesn't have onboard video that you can try does it?

No, it doesn't. I also have no other PCI-E or PCI graphics card to check it with.
Also, I tried to play with the live CD's loading parameters and found out that the parameter that makes it run is the one that relates to the graphics driver used.
Is there any way to load the driver during Windows' setup, the same way one can load SATA drivers when installing? It might help. Also, can I install the drivers to a card without the card being connected (assuming I can lend another card), and then connecting the card and hoping for good results?

Windows XP should be able to handle that card. I suspect that it is faulty. RMA it.

I have to agree with nexxo, that it should get sent back for replacement. If it was a driver issue, for how long the 1600 series has been out, people would know about it by now.
What are the other specs that you have?
like the power supply for example.
