WOW just WOW, I knew there was a reason I wasn't downgrading from 98 to XP and instead upgrading to Debian.

I've always hated the way Windows manages memory but it's slightly implausable that Microsoft would purposely include that fault :worried:

Luckily for me there is only one Windows machine in my entire house now, and that will probably be replaced with Linux fairly soon.

I would switch to Linux if I had more time on my hands so I can get familiar with it. But right now I'll stick to WinXP Pro.

Also mandrake linux (which i successfully installed on my toshiba laptop) did not want to recognise my adsl modem. So obviously i had to reboot to get on bit.

    Maybe someday soon

Off-topic, sorry, sinizterguy, there are many Mandrake users that have experienced similar problems with adsl modems, have a read of their user forums where there should be an answer for you. I am writing this on Mandrake, using alcatel speedtouch on BTOpenworld.

If you are going into the new copies of mandrake, I will suggest that you go with RedHat over it. Simply because people used to base them being the best because they improved on the RedHat distrobution, which they do not anymore. If you will take a look more indept at the two, RedHat is much more suited for the beginner, and the expert who knows how to configure things without help.

I wouldn't usually agree with you on the easy bit, but I've just beeb looking at Redhat 8, and it does look easy. There is a small flash presentation to show some of the new features, and I must admit, it looks pretty good. I may give it a go.
