Had to do a repair install recently as Windows update screwed something up.

Now when ever downloading something and clicking 'Open Folder', nothing happens. Also, right clicking on an application shortcut and clicking 'find target' also fails to work.

    Any ideas?

    I'd recommend you type
sfc /scannow at a cmd prompt.
you'll need your install CDs, but it should reinstate the original files.

Are you using SP2? If so, did you use an SP2 slipstream copy of XP when you ran the SFC?

    reinstall IE...

This is a common problem as the restore restores certain files back to the original state. That of which are older then the ones currently updated and patched. This could be your problem. Did you already try a reinstall of IE? Or use Firefox...

I was using SP2 previously. I ran SFC with a copy of XP with SP1.
