Windows windows xp problem

im having a problem with windows explorer every time i go into my documents windows explorer crases all my icons and task bar go and then a few seconds they come back i am getting this error message

Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

and a load of other stuff i dont understand any ideas???
