Hey all I have a rather annoying problem In windows XP Professional, if you do a "Control keymgr.dll" in the run box, you get up the "stored usernames and password" box it should look like this However, in windows media center, its partially disabled this is driving me nuts, every time i want to access a share i have to put in the password I have tried everything to enable it that i could find on the Internet, does anybody have any idea how you enable it, or how to yell at Microsoft to tell me how to enable it Or failing that, is there any other program that will automatically enter a network password, at windows start up, without a prompt, ie bypass this dialogue box ] Any help would be appreciated -CompleteMadness-
Hey, I did some quick googling and found this Microsoft support page...maybe it'll help. Post an update once you try it, I don't currently have access to my Media Center Edition PC, my iTunes library is consolidating on my Vista PC, which dual boots XP MCE http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555631 ckrieger
the boxes i posted above are what come up if you follow those instructions however, MCE has the add option disabled
You should probably just go out and get a complete version of windows. Microsoft makes all the money buy selling stripped down Os' to people. IE. XP home edition cannot use domains. So chances are there is no quick fix to the lack of code.
its not XP home though, its media center edition, which is a modified version of Pro (As far as i can tell) also, XP Pro does not have the extra features of Media Center Edition (IE, the ability to be a media center ?)
Hi, I guess this thread isn't *too* old I have the exact same problem. Using Windows XP MCE 2002. I'm trying to connect it to a new linux-based server using Samba. When I map a drive to a server Samba share, it calls up a password dialogue, with no option to save the password. When I try to edit network passwords in the control panel, I get the same crippled dialogue that completemadness did. Is there really no workaround? Is MCE crippled for this function? I understand it's supposed to be based on XP pro, so this would be real annoying. Any help greatly appreciated!!!
I never found a solution, I guess the only option left would be to talk to MS themselves, but i ended up changing my MCE box's to Linux (MythTV) anyway, so it ended up not being a big issue If it is fixable, I'm guessing its a registry setting, but i never found anything on the net to help Good luck P.s. if you do find a solution, please do post it up
Feh. I was afraid of that. Anyone else -- can you confirm if it's correct that Microsoft decided to leave out this feature in Windows Media Center Edition? So aggravating. No reason for this at all...
MCE definitely seems to be based off of XP Home, as it can't connect to a domain either. Gimped piece of crap :/
Like much in life and OS's there is more then on way to skin a cat.. You can mount/map network drive via the command line.. https://www.microsoft.com/resources...s/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/net_use.mspx?mfr=true This method allows you to specify the user and password as command arguments. And we all know that any command line command can be put into a bat/script file And we all know that script files can be ran @ login/startup.. happy happy
I HAVE THIS PROBLEM TOO! EVERYONE I TALKED TO THOUGHT I WAS CRAZY, BUT WHEN YOU HAVE A SERVER AND MULTIPLE NETWORK DRIVES, TYPING IN YOUR PASSWORD EVERY TIME YOU REBOOT CAN DRIVE YOU MAD!
you can log on using the "net use" command you can define a path and username and passowrd. I see a post above to MS site but it didnt list the net use command for this.
YOU DONT! HAVE TO SCREAM ABOUT IT!!1! i seem to remember that when i bought mce it said something about it having all the capabilities of pro, except the ability to join a domain. i guess this was one of the other things they decided to get rid of.
Dude that was mce not mcse, unless there was something else there, you might want to post a little more than hi. try to be a bit more specific.
