I dont know about the rest of you out there but I have had some good and bad experiences with Windows XP Professional edition.

The cd i have does not require you to register as it is a MEEC agreement. (dont get any ideas ppl) However, XP pro always seems to lock up, freeze, crash whatever you want to call it at the most odd times. I have had more bad experiences then good, the only thing i do like about it is its easily customizable UI. Thoughts suggestions anyone?

Windows 98SE has proved to be the OS i will use for awile!

I had XP running for a while but I went back 2k don't know why but I prefer it. I suppose it seems faster to me, but XP was stable for me.

Ive never had any problems with random crashes with XP until i upped my FSB a bit bum im sure thats nothing to do with windows XP. The only real problem ive ever had is problems with it shutting down or logging off with the early creative drivers :D

I usually think that WinXP act on their own. For example some messages that keep poping when login in windows give me the option to tick a box and not see them again. No matter how many times I ticked the damn box the messages keeps poping up ! :( .

I also have the impression that many important software titles like Norton Software aren't compatible with winXP.

When I used XP i found it was very very stable. I think it only crashed once since installing it in October. XP has some nice features, but i found it a little 'annoying' when it was telling me that i'd installed a new hard drive or whatever - i know ive installed it! I dont need to be told!

I installed 2k Pro two days ago and its also very stable, and doesnt come with the clutter that XP does.

2k pro is more hardcore than XP! :D

XP is too pretty, which means it uses up a hell of a lot more RAM..... when I used to use XP, my typical ram usage was 350Mb, on 2k pro my typical ram usage is 160Mb ish :)

yes but you can unload all the pretty stuff like animations fade out menus, extra desktop icons..you can ever replace the shell with the old one (windows classic). I really like the fact that there are no blue screens !!! it was a psychological trauma for me. :p

There are bluescreens, you just have to get far enough along through M$ code to get them now, btw you can make them red screens if you wish too, there customizeable.

Maybe its just my bad luck im not sure. But anyways I think it might be due to the fact of always using multiple users. Im gonna try a fresh install with one user.

Also get this, i installed XP pro on my cousins custom pc and whenever it would boot up to logon screen it would flicker and reboot. Every single time. Even in safe mode! WTF is that? He's using 2k now anyways but still XP is just annoying as hell to me.

Win ME used to always mess up my sound card but XP has been good so far.
It's just good to have your pc running without any problems, it even takes inproper shutdowns well!

Well Ive been looking for a chance to put 2k on my laptop, and finally got, it. I had a virus :miffed:
But anyway the install on a 366 took about an hour which includes deleting the partition, and formatting a new one. After the install was done, I didnt even have to install drivers for anything, it was all ready to go. Well all except my wireless network card ;)

XP was great on my tbird, never ever crashed. But on every other computer I have used it on it has not been as good. My laptop has some strange problems, and the PIII machine I installed it on frequently freezes up completely when the hard drive is accessed a lot. I think it all depends on whether XP likes your hardware combination.:eyebrow:

I've not had any major problems with XP, just a couple incompatibilities with some older software, but the companies released patches for XP so everything's fine and dandy.

I just set up a whole office with XP machines, so I know what it's like to have to migrate and make sure everything that used to work still does.

Personally I use 2k on my home PC and XP on my laptop for work; and that's how it's gonna stay for a good while yet.

Ive got XP Pro and I love it to bits, (well what can you say, the last OS iwas stuck with was WinME :cries: )

It runs nice and fast for me, and with all the third party themes for it, it looks great too :cooldude:

The only problems I have had was with my games and the 60hz refresh rate, but after finding the fix I sorted that out in 5 mins.

To me, its the best OS I've used, (havn't tried 2k, just the 9x series)

    XP Pro= WIN!
