XP Pro runs fine for me. My charity version anyway. My Dad has the Legal version and he's had more trouble with his than I'vre had with mine.

he's had to re-activate 3 times since he bought XP when it first came out in October, I dob't quite understand it.

I did run "in 2K for a while I probably will again onceI can be bothered to setup a trippe boot configuration, XP 2K and 98 SE or Me, not sure yet.

    XP Pro rules

I have had XP Pro since it came out. Now I have worked on a few computers with Home Edition, and well... truthfully, it crashes too often. Pro, on the other hand, i have to agree with stew, runs smoother than anything. I have tried to crash XP Pro, but it just grins :D and keeps on going. It's alot of money to buy Pro, but I think that it is worth it.

I noticed the same thing, but I thought that the main code of the home and pro editions were "supposed" to be the same, just different features.

Maybe I just got a cheapo version of XP Pro...

Anyone want to burn me a copy of theirs? Without the activation feature in it?

Sounds like the infamous "Infinite Loop" error that many gf and radeon users are getting (including me). Heres the beginning of my rant:

This "infinite loop" problem started to appear early last year, when the gf2's started to hit the market. Nobody knows what the cause of it is...its not specific to any hardware and any software including OS (yes i do mean win2k/xp/linux etc..). It just so happens that win2k/xp reports it as an "inifinite loop" bluescreen, win98/me/linux would just freeze the box.

After endlessly researching this problem, the most useful site for possible solutions was viahardware.com. Via being the only manufacturer to admit the problem exists, and trying to come out with a solution.

Unfortunately because of the open nature of PC's there are millions of different combinations of hardware/software. Microsoft always had the hard task of remaining compatible with all of that. For the last 10 years I've been hearing everyone say how horrible windows is because of crashes/bluescreens, etc.. Little did we all know that MANY of people were running wrong/cheap hardware with insufficent power supplies (that cheapo 235watt PS that comes with most cases is junk, and not good for system stability), and we all blamed the evil microsoft empire for putting out a crappy OS. Little did we know that because of this open hardware de facto standard that we call PC's, anyone can build a PC that crashes (because lots of people do not build PC's to spec).

Turns out that a huge chunk of people having this issue were people with underpowered/cheap PS's and cheap RAM. Another section was more of a compatibility issues and a need for better quality control from the manufacturers for their parts. And the rest, the solution is unknown. /end rant

WinXP has been a great OS...very stable with no issues what so ever. Hopefully computing will continue this trend, I didn't have to do a thing once XP was installed!

Sorry for being off-topic for a bit..But it might be useful info for some BTers out there :D

P.S. I'm not implying anything EOP...just supplying some info!

    P.P.S. Dawg email me..

xp is too idiot friendly...it annoys me when it always says **** like
and then everything is automated, like if ever you have a prob, it'll just automatically connect and find out the prob, i mean windoze just ain't the same if you don't have to ask you guys every time you have a prob, and it's supposed to happen all the time!!!:dude: :( :D :eeek:

hehe XP cracked me up when i was trying to find drivers for my modem to get it to work, it asked me if i wanted to connect to the internet to search for drivers?! "would you like to connect to the internet to find drivers for your modem which needs drivers to work and connect to the internet?" Bill Gates baffles me and also almost gave me a heart attack this morning when everything got fuxed up and as a last resort i used the system restore thing in XP and it worked! i swear if i hadn't got a broken leg and if i wasnt sitting in an armchair i wouldve fallen off my chair!

I am currently upgarding my PC and was wondering what would be the better OS to run on it. I am currently running Win98SE and am trying to decide between Win XP and Win 2000. I mainly use the PC for work so games support extra doesn't really matter.

Well I'm not too bothered about XP "frills" I just want a stable OS. Also is ok to use a PIII processor with XP? I've heard they don't like each other very much.
