    Hey guys,

I was wondering if anybody knew anything about windscreen repairs for chips - in particular I want to know if the "diy kits" you can get are alright, and if not where the best place to get it fixed might be.

I dont want it on insurance so money is important ;)

    Thanks,
    Bogo

The DIY kits can vary wildly from what I've heard, tbh if you don't get it free/extremely cheap from your insurance company it isn't really worth the effort imo. Worth checking your policy though, I think windscreen cover is a pretty standard part these days. :)

Most policies offer no-claims-independent repair and replace windscreen cover, my last 2 policies have, often they'll come and fix chips for free!

It happened before I bought the car I think, so I dont want to go potentially frauding myself for the sake of a bit of money, that why I said I dont want it on insurance :p

(Also I have a £55 excess on glass)

Ive know a couple of people that tried a DIY kit and it was rubbish, Im not sure how tightly they followed the instructions but i wouldnt have thought it was difficult.

I dont know who your insurance is with but £55 sounds excessive, My old directline policy was £10 for chip repair by autoglass and didnt effect NCD. You might not want to go through your insurance. But imo the windscreen is a fairly important element of the car and it might as well be done right.

Are you sure the excess applies to chip repairs? My insurance charge £70 excess for windscreen replacement but nothing for chip repairs.

Although my mate is a windscreen fitter so I get it done for free anyway.

I've used the DIY kits before, they're ok but not perfect. It depends how the crack has formed really. You'll get much better results from a proper repair from a windscreen company.

You guys have glass coverage? must be nice. try living in alberta.
I would stay away from a do it yourself kit. cheap kit = cheap work.
