You'll want WineX as Wine is crap for games.

If you just get the free the source packages, it's fine, I've gotten it working before. My one friend actually paid the money to get the RPM packages, and they gave him endless troubles, even more than the source packages did. :hehe:

It's got really good docuentation, so it's easy enough to install, but some peopel have trouble getting it working, WineX seems to be a little like overclocking. It's not a science . . . . .

either way their both sketchy programs
think about it, your running windows based programs on linux....i use wine for counterstrike, when it switches my display mode it changes it to a 1280x1024 physical screen, and only 1024x768, so if u hit esc and move the mouse right, you see your desktop
its messed up but it works.

wine does work if you compile it right, dont forget u need to add the dll's that the programs use under ~/.wine/config and specify them native or whatever
im just clearing up the fact that wine -does- work, its just really hard to get a few programs to work...but if u read on the winehq website you'll see that theres support for almost every windows program thats out there.
to answer your 'why doesnt everyone just dual-boot with winxp' well look at it this way, it takes up over a GB of more hdd space, you have to reboot your computer everytime u want to use an application, and reboot again when your done with it, and u write more information to the MBR causing both OS's to be unstable (if not immidately then somewhere down the line)
wine works fine for me, kazaa, quake2, counter-strike, explorer.exe, etc. only it tends to crash every-so-often, but solved with a reload or a restart of X

That is for the compiled RPMs, you cna download the source for free via CVS.

Although support is minimal for the source.

I've used both the source and the RPMs, while the RPMs are nicer and easier to work with, both work just fine.

And dude, lay off the swearing, I don't care about "foul" language but it's rather annoying reading a post that is nothing but asterisks every second word.

agreed --it is starting to get -really- old now, and annoying

i, too have used both source and rpm and they both (in my opinion) work the same as the other, despite the few hassles of the source installation and the config and whatnot

i'm sure i shouldn't ask this question, but can someone point me to a copy of the source that doesn't require me to use cvs. I can't use it, because my uni block the ports it uses from our network. Also i'm having problems getting the files when loggin in from someone elses linux box.

I'm not asking for the binaries, jus the source files.

If anyone can help, i'd be greatful
