ok i was zipping some small files earlier with winrar.. now after it had fionished i noticed that it was saying that the file size was bigger than the original folder... is ther something wrong here? i used the best compression option when doing it.... but all the other times ive done this its become greatly smaller than the original.... could it be the file types in side the original folder?

Just increase the compression in the dialog box that pops up when you're adding files to the archive.

Well, the compression technique it uses sometimes makes small files larger, as well as making compressed files like .mpg and .mp3 bigger too. The best bet is to just archive them in that case. :)
