    Hi all,

I'm experiencing several complete system halts a day, normally related to the following errors (which sometimes I receive on a blue screen).

    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
    PAGE_FAULT_IN_UNPAGED_AREA

Sometimes the blue screen gives no useful information whatsoever, sometimes I don't get a blue screen at all and the whole system freezes. The only way out is restarting in either case.

These problems all started when I installed a new graphics card (9600XT) to replace my GeForce 4 MX 420 card. I figured "well this is obviously a hardware issue" so swapped them back (after uninstalling correctly of course) but the errors seemed to continue. I even tried swapping out my RAM for a stick I knew not to be faulty. I've tried formatting and reinstalling Windows but I can't stop these errors coming up time and time again. They seem to happen when there's a high load on the system but this isn't always the case.

Every time I get a freeze/blue screen I check my Event Viewer's Error Log, and there's always an error along these lines:

    Event ID: 1003
    Category: 102
    Type: Error
    Source: System Error

    Error code 1000008e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 71d924e0, parameter3 f5d447fc, parameter4 00000000.

Sometimes the parameters differ slightly but the ID/Category/etc are always the same.

I really don't know what to do. Searching the internet for these error messages seems to bring up loads of "check your memory/graphics card" type solutions which I have done, to no avail.

Can anyone help here? Any help would be much appreciated :) System specs are in sig, let me know if you need to know anything else ;)

Youve tried the old card, right?

Try checking your hard drive for errors.

Yeah as I said in my original post I swapped them back and the errors kept happening.

Also I have tried formatting the drive to try and fix the problem so I don't think it's to do with the hard drive.

I did a bit of detective work and found that the errors seem to be triggered every time "ATI Smart" started. I have disabled this service so hopefully all will be ok now - but I will keep you posted on everything. Interestingly a service called EAPOL seems to start at the same time as ATI Smart but I can't find out anything useful about it on Google - anyone got any idea what it's for?

No I'm not actually :p Just happen to have that surname though. Dad did a bit of research into our family history and didn't seem to find any link between us and the place.

Oh, and the problem is solved btw ;) Managed to remove EAPOL.
