Remove it the good old fashioned way:

Go into your directories and just tear it out. Remove it's existense form your system manually in every instanse. I do this and it doesn't do any harm (I use win2k though, I remove the bits I don't want)

I would think it'd be fine with XP, if XP is as good as Microsquat bloats about it
    *cough*Linux*cough*

Other than that, might a third party de-installer or system cleaner maybe be able to do it? Like Norton Cleaner it's called maybe (I don't know the program really, maybe I'm talking out of my sitting organ)

whats so bad about outlook express? I use it, simply because my ISP's email blows, but its free (dad pays for cable) that and id rather press one button in my quicklaunch bar insteadof going through literally 7 pages just to read my email.

Firstly, don't hurt me if it does b0rk it up, if you don't feel confident about it, DON'T DO IT.

That said, it shouldn't bother with it, obviouslt don't go deleting your systme files, but otherwise it's been my experience that it doesn't bother with it.

My one friend who has experience with XP has basically stripped and hacked up his XP to all high heaven, he has almost nothing that isn't a system file, and it works fine. Doing a little google search on removing Windows XP bundled software might also help you.

I am also a person who throws around OSes, I install my OSes so much it isn't funny, but that's mainly the fact that Windows hates me and tries to kill me by kamikaze diving into my face, so I usually just tear through things to figure them out and find out what I can do before I break it. Take this into account. If Windows uses it for something, then don't remove it, if you never use it, and you never see Windows use it (check your prossesses, services, etc) then chances are, it's safe to remove.

Like I said before though, if you don't feel confident in what your doing, or don't want to chance having to re-install your OS, and are one of those people whom it would be very difficult or a giant pain in the rumpus to do, then don't do it.

    My two dimes worth :p

MSConfig is another useful one to remove/change things, couldn't rememeber the name of it before, but he reminded me.

Also he formated and is in win2k now. He tried going to far. He finally snapped Windows' little back.

He also didn't record anything he did, and doesn't remember most of what he did. He said that most of it was from the regedit site (see previous post) and MSConfig and Tweak UI though.

My advice would be to look through the websites, get MSConfig, and Tweak UI (both free, just googlealize them) and if your up to it, just go into where the movie maker (and any other programs you don't want) arre installed and just delete them if you want to try that. Your bst bet if you do try, is to instead of deleting them, move them and rename the root folder of the program (ie "movie make v90" renamed to "windows puking on my drives") and then reboot, if it buggers up Windows, rename it back and move it back (you might have to safe mode boot for this) and if it works, then permanently delete it.

Sorry I couldn't be more help, hope that helps you at all though, and you somehow get XP to how you want it:D

I did get to him. Read the post just above yours, he broke his installation, he tried going to far (something both of us are famous for, unfortunately) and well, I explained it up there ^

that will have all the info you need to remove any useless junk and improve the performance of xp. If you are uncertain of your skills in doing any other things listed there (particularly registry editing) then don't mess with it unless you are willing to format if you mess it up.

TweakXP, great site - just got rid of MSN Messenger with no side effects

Just type RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove in the run dialogue box and reboot - gone.

That may be true but windows support for win2k (for what its worth) won't be around too much longer. That of coarse means that software and hardware vendors won't be too happy catering to it anymore either. True more business use 2k then xp at the mo, but I believe even more are still using NT which is being completly nixed by MS at the end of this year if I remember correctly.
