ok, so i recently installed expansion usb ports to my computer, the ones that connect to a header on the mobo, but it won't work with my flashdrive. A guy i know thinks that it might be because that the wires aren't shielded. Is this a possible problem, and if so, is there any household item that i could use or a cheap product i could use? help would be appreciated.

Shielding is an unlikely cause since USB uses a differential signal on a pair of wires. If your wire connection is very short or very long, then proper termination and compliance with the USB standard is important. Try a cable of a few foot length.

Is the USB port enabled in BIOS, does it need enabeling, are the wires plugged in correctly at the header?

    Welcome to Bit-Tech, weirdo1491 :thumb:

I suspect this may be a hardware problem - do the new ports work with other things like a mouse? Is the expansion fitting the right pinning for your mobo - there are at least two variations on the 8-pin layout?

I'll move to Hardware, may be other things.
