We are moving into a new house which for the most part has no carpet downstairs (it has wooden floors instead) so we can't really have cables trailing to connect the downstairs study to the wired network that will be upstairs. Basically I already have a d-link 4 port router (that will be part of the upstairs network) and I would like some advice on the best thing to buy to add in a wireless network. Can I get something that will uplink directly into the router? Or would it be better to buy a new router which has wireless and a 4 port switch? Also I will be needing a pcmia network card so any adivce on which one is best to get would be most appreciated. ta.
Yes you can get an access point (AP) or bridge and just plug it into your current router. But a quick scan of prices at the moment looks like there's not much price difference between those and a wireless router. In fact I noticed on NewEgg that it looks like D-link is offering a hefty rebate on one of their models at the moment. As for the network card I'd recommend getting the same brand nic as your router or bridge.
