Set up a wireless link between my house and a mates, who has broardband :), accross the road today using D-Link's DWL-520+ and DWL-900AP+. The set-up works quite well (can sustain a 22Mbps connection most of the time) but as always there is room for improvement, particualy as we want to extend the range. So was wondering if anybody has tried any home made efforts?

    Cheers

I haven't personally but the cantenna seems to be a favourite and pretty cheap, should be fine if you have line of site... google it and see what you get

Yeah, thought about the cantenna but don't just want a directional antenna.

Also, it would be easier to buy an antenna but for a fraction of the cost you can make a much more powerful one.

Oh well, spose all I can do is give it a go...

Yea I just suggest the built ones for the fact that you know they will work with your current tech....

Yeah, it would be guarantee to work, but I guarantee my home made one WILL work, even if I have to bring out the extra large hammer. :D

Well, I decided on giving this one a try, so will report back with how it goes. Will also be giving the cantenna a go cos I've heard that the pringles tube version (that apparently gives very good results) can quite often burst into flames and I need a good laugh...

try using real tin rather than the cardboard pringles tin though, makes ALOT of difference.

Currently trying to figure out this stuff myself - but haven't successfully completed it yet!
